Going all out in a Minecraft build is one of the game’s strengths. While sure, you can always get by on the simplest of creations, due to the game’s admittedly limited functionality in some ways, it’s always better to create something standout.
Part of creating an excellent build is leveraging interior design. While you can build an awesome-looking lighthouse, for instance, it’s hard to feel satisfied if the interior is bland. That’s why Minecraft interior design is so important.
This guide will discuss Minecraft interior design, breaking down some ideas for you to start with while giving you inspiration for even greater builds.
Minecraft Interior Design Ideas
Before getting into some actual builds, let’s focus on interior design tips that can up your creating game.
Foundational Looks
The most important part of Minecraft interior design is understanding which materials you want to use as inspiration.
For example, if you’re looking to use Wood, you might want to find complementary Wood colors to balance your rooms. You wouldn’t want Cherry Wood with Oak Wood, for instance, as the colors might clash rather than balance each other out. They might also provide a different vibe. Oak and Spruce might give you a more traditional feel, while Pale Oak can give you a more modern house.

Conversely, you may want to blend Wood and Stone types to create a hybrid building that incorporates multiple materials. There are countless blocks of either type to try out, so be open to all kinds of possibilities, and expect to alter your walls and other build parts as time goes on.
Of course, the look of your walls will affect the decorating inside. You’ll want stairs that complement your structure so as not to break the overall feel. But perhaps the most essential component of your build is its windows.
Window Selection
Windows affect everything. Giant windows bring in tons of natural light, while smaller windows allow you to control where the sun shines in. Both have a purpose, especially depending on your space.
For instance, you may want to control the lighting in a bedroom more than you would a kitchen, as the former requires darkness to sleep while the latter needs light to see what you’re cooking! Of course, these functions don’t necessarily matter in Minecraft’s mechanics, but they’re fun to think about when you’re considering interior design.

To make things even more complicated, you have multiple types of colored Glass, Glass Panes vs. blocks of Glass. Colored Glass changes the way light filters into your building, so keep that in mind as inspiration.
Heck, you can even place some Glass on your roof, in combination with some Slabs, to give yourself a skylight!
Room Selection
Next, you have room selection. Just like in real life, interior decoration varies based on the room of your choice.
You don’t really need to make space for a bed in a kitchen, but you may want room for a cute dining corner or extravagant shelving. Conversely, you probably won’t have carpeting in your kitchen, but you would put a rug under your bed or near the bedroom door. Whatever makes the room cozier.

It’s smart to focus on one room at a time, but maybe come up with an overall theme for your decorating. If you like Flowers, try to find a neat spot for each flower in your home. Maybe put all of the red Flowers in the bedroom and all of the blue ones in the kitchen, or have them match the colors of your stained Glass. The styles of each room are up to you.
Minecraft Interior Design Examples
With these ideas in mind, let’s look at some inspiration to spark your imagination.
Modern Bedroom
This modern bedroom, built entirely in vanilla Minecraft by none other than BlueNerd, is a truly unconventional creation with numerous little details, and is an awesome way to start your interior design journey.

To start, this is a multi-layered bedroom with the bed on its top half and a seating area alongside an entire fireplace on the first floor.
The Brick fireplace features shelving for plant life and a painting on its upper half, next to Trap Doors hanging on the walls to support additional greenery.

Upstairs, BlueNerd layers Spruce Trapdoors on top of some white blocks for some interesting contrast, and then he decorates the space with Armor Stands to show off his accomplishments, giving it some additional flair.
Some creators use Item Frames to decorate with, but BlueNerd wanted to showcase the gear he acquired while playing the game.
Enchanting Room
Everyone needs an Enchanting Room, but few know how to decorate it. Creator Achilles combined materials with nature to create a pretty standout build.
This creation utilizes the typical Bookshelves surrounding an Enchanting Table, but elevates it with Candles (a good alternative to Lanterns), a Skeleton Head, some Spruce Stairs and Trap Doors, and lots of fauna.

Many builds use Fences and their posts to surround a build, maybe even throw in some chests are two, but not this one. This is some Minecraft interior design that stands out.
Perhaps most interesting is the dirt floor, which could be a bit of a point of contention, depending on what you prefer. Just don’t comment here, it’s not our fault!
Kitchen Design
YouTuber Eli’s Art presents a standout kitchen design that explores Stripped Birch in combination with Spruce, alongside Barrels, Chests, and even Chains for a slightly medieval look.

It’s important to note the Blast Furnace stove, standing out from typical Furnaces in most kitchens.
This build also utilizes Dead Coral Fans, though they make sure not to spam the item. Sometimes, limiting one’s self can lead to the best results.
Now that you know quite a bit more about interior design, why not create a world with some buddies and impress them? You may be able to teach them a thing or two about Minecraft interior design, after all.
