For the most part, Minecraft players have a good idea of the various mobs they will encounter in the Overworld as they play. Between the iconic creeper, zombie, enderman, and spider, you’ll have plenty of instances where you need to protect yourself, so you’ll have a good idea of how to counterattack. That being said, new mobs are being added consistently. Whether they are passive or hostile, you should know what to do when you encounter them. In this case, we have a poison skeleton that was introduced in the Tricky Trials Update. Here is everything you need to know about the bogged mob in Minecraft.
What is a bogged in Minecraft?

A bogged is a variant of the skeleton, but it only appears in swamp biomes, including the mangrove swamp biome. It can also appear in trial chambers. The green coloring seems to imply that this skeleton has been stuck in the swamp for a long time, rotting away and being covered in slime, moss, mucus, and other nasty swamp elements like the mushrooms growing out of its head.
Like normal skeletons, bogged only attack with a bow and arrow, but this one shoots poisoned arrows at you. When they hit, your health will take the initial damage from the arrow and then some poison damage over time. Luckily, the poison damage only lasts four seconds. It doesn’t feel like it takes forever, like when you are hit with a potion of poison by a witch.
The best ways to defeat a bogged in Minecraft

Like any other hostile mob, the bogged is a threat, but the poison arrows adds a bit of danger to their behavior, making them impossible to ignore. You don’t want to be traveling a mangrove swamp at night and be swarmed by their attacks. Here are some tips to help you not meet a premature death and kill the bogged.
Due to the long-range and high damage potential over time of the bogged, we recommend attacking it from range yourself. Get a good sight line on it and begin shooting arrows, keeping in mind to strafe left and right to avoid incoming arrows. The bogged does have a slower reload speed than regular skeletons, so you will have a slight bit more time to attack before you need to worry about incoming damage. However, terrain should be kept in mind. Given that you will likely encounter these mobs in a swamp be sure you don’t accidentally fall into the water and can’t move around as well.
If you prefer a more direct approach, a good sword that has the Smite enchantment on it will take down a bogged quickly, though we recommend also equipping a shield to protect yourself from the incoming arrow attack. Essentially, if you know how to eliminate skeletons, you shouldn’t have too much of a problem dealing with a bogged.
You will also need to have a good understanding of your surroundings while fighting a bogged. More mobs could easily spawn in the dark swamp biome at night, making your journey quite difficult. You may be dealing with one bogged, but then more poison skeletons come out of nowhere, accompanied by spiders, regular skeletons, and zombies.
One thing to keep in mind before you go traveling around the swamplands at night is that even if a bogged’s poison arrows hit you, you can instantly maintain your health and clear the effect by drinking milk from a bucket. Take an iron bucket and interact with a cow to get this neutralizing antidote, though it will not restore your health on its own.
What can you get from a bogged in Minecraft?

The loot you can get from a bogged in Minecraft is not that surprising. In most instances where you have killed one of these skeletons, they will drop a bone or regular arrow. It also has a decent chance of dropping poison arrows, giving you a good farming situation to build up your stock of poison tipped arrows.
If you work up a good collection of poison arrows, we recommend saving them for undead creatures. If you hit zombies, skeletons, or other undead with poison arrows, they will take the damage from the arrow itself, but they cannot be poisoned. Witches are also very resilient to them.
Interestingly, while you can not get them to drop from killing a bogged, you can use shears on a bogged to make it drop the mushrooms on its head. We don’t necessarily recommend this, considering that it will likely be attacking you with projectiles as you try to get close. There are better ways to get the fungi.
