In Minecraft, the game doesn’t simply limit you to surviving each night and battling mobs. It also challenges you creatively, allowing you to create anything, with the limit only being your imagination. Some aesthetic builds often include houses, castles, and cabins, and to keep your home warm, you can add decorative items and mini-builds. An example of this is creating a personal Minecraft fireplace that is both ornamental and functional for your home.
A fireplace can add a hint of warmth to your home, with its sparking sounds and the animation when its smoke floats up in the air. However, you should be careful where you plan to build your fireplace, as it can damage mobs and yourself.
With that in mind, we’ve created this guide on creating a Minecraft fireplace and some suggested designs you can use as inspiration. From understanding what a fireplace is to learning how to craft it from a Campfire, we’ll be helping you make a fireplace that seamlessly fits into your home.
What is a Minecraft Fireplace?

In general, a fireplace is a structure that’s designed to contain a fire. Found usually in large homes in colder locations, a framed opening is built within a house and made alongside a chimney to hold an open fire safely. This is usually made with Brick, Stone, and even Metal.
In the context of Minecraft, fireplaces are usually created with a Campfire. Minecraft Campfires are blocks that can be used to cook food, serve as a light source, and even tame Bees.

When it comes to lighting a Campfire, this is usually lit after crafting it. However, if a Campfire is unlit, you can ignite it with some Flint and Steel.
In terms of a Campfire’s behavior, Campfires don’t put you at risk of a fire spread if you put it near flammable blocks or similar flammable materials. You’ll only get burning damage if you or mobs stand directly on top of a Campfire. So, you can build a safe fireplace despite the materials your house is made of.
You can create Campfires with some Sticks, Coal or Charcoal, and Logs. While for Soul Campfires, the Soul Sand or Soul Soil replaces the Coal or Charcoal requirements. If you want to find naturally generated Campfires, you’ll find them in Taigas and Snowy Taiga Villages. There are some instances of Campfires generating within an Ancient City.
Some variations of fireplaces built from Minecraft Campfires use Netherrack, Magma Blocks, and even Redstone mechanics to create flames. Additionally, players still incorporate blocks like Stone Bricks, regular Bricks, Deepslate, Cobblestone, and even Copper to enhance the visual appeal of a fireplace. Some players even add Iron Bars, Trap Doors, and other similar blocks to enhance their fireplace.
Benefits of having a Fireplace in Minecraft
Since you now have an overview of a Minecraft fireplace and Campfires in general, we can get to knowing more about the benefits of making a fireplace in Minecraft. Fireplaces aren’t just for aesthetic purposes, as they’re also functional and practical to have.
Cooking Food
Usually, fireplace Campfires are used for cooking food in-game. It’s a great fire source without needing to burn Coal in a Furnace. You need to put food items on the Campfire to cook food. Unlike the Furnace, which you can cook a stack of the same food items, the Campfire can only cook up to four pieces of food. But this can be a combination of different types of food.
Light Source and Visibility
As a Campfire, this block produces a form of light. The regular Campfire’s light level is 15, while its Soul Campfire counterpart has a light level of 10. The Campfire is great for warding off mobs within an area if you plan to place them outside in dark areas. You can make an outdoor fireplace to serve the dual purpose of making a great decorative piece and having a source of light.
Additionally, you can use your fireplace as a signal fire. The smoke that rises from your fireplace can be easily detected from far places, giving direction to other players within the vicinity. It’s a good way to mark locations, especially if you have any difficulty navigating your way in Minecraft.
Taming Bees
Besides the typical uses of the light source and cooking for a fireplace, you can use it to tame bees. Take your Campfire from your fireplace and place it under a bee nest. This will tame the bees and prevent them from being aggressive towards you. You’ll be able to easily harvest Honey and Honeycombs.
Immersion
Lastly, having a fireplace can add more immersion to playing Minecraft. It mainly enhances the cozy feeling of homes due to the crackling noise and animation the Campfire can make from your fireplace. Moreover, it can complement different architectural styles. So if you have a medieval, rustic, or even a modern home, fireplaces just add that charm to enhance your home.
How do I make a Minecraft Fireplace?
Making a fireplace in Minecraft doesn’t have to be difficult. You simply need a Campfire, a little bit of imagination, a chosen location, and other blocks you want to make your fireplace with. Here’s an easy guide to follow to create a safe fireplace of your own.
First, decide where you want to build your fireplace. Players would often build their fireplaces in a corner of their home or against a wall.

You might have to reorganize some items or furniture you’ve already placed in your home. Even consider if you plan to build your fireplace on the second floor of your house, within your bedroom.
Next, gather your needed materials.

You usually need one to three Campfires or Soul Campfires, depending on how big your fireplace will be. Additionally, you’d want to avoid having to craft multiple Campfires if you decide to change your mind and destroy your placed Campfire and replace it.
To build a Campfire, you’ll need three Sticks, Coal or Charcoal, and three Logs, Wood, or Stripped Wood.

Alternatively, a Soul Campfire replaces the Coal or Charcoal with Soul Sand or Soul Soil.

Once you’ve gathered those materials, place the materials accordingly on your Crafting Table. Another option is to use the pre-made recipes on the Crafting Table and make your Campfire from there. Then, craft your Campfire.
Other materials you might need for your fireplace include Brick-type blocks, Stones, Trapdoors or Fences, Iron Bars, and other similar materials.
As you’ve prepared your materials, you can start building your fireplace by placing your Campfire. This will be your main fire source.

After placing your Campfire, surround it with your other blocks. It doesn’t matter if your blocks are the type that are flammable material or nonflammable material. This will create a kind of hearth for your fireplace.

Upon creating your hearth, you can then make the fireplace frame to create the surrounding structure. You can add Iron Bars, Trapdoors, and Fences to protect yourself from the fire source.

The next step is adding a chimney. You can create a chimney that extends outside of your house for the smoke to rise.

Consider adding another Campfire just right under the chimney’s top hole to create a realistic smoke effect.

Feel free to add decorations around your fireplace to increase the aesthetic of your fireplace. With that, you can enjoy your completed fireplace.
