Minecraft thrives off of your creativity. While you’ll surely come up with many structures and other cool ways to decorate your world, you’ll likely want to connect them all together in some way.
In that case, you’ll probably want to take advantage of paths. Paths are the perfect way to guide players around your world and create eye candy while traveling from place to place.
This guide will cover everything you need to know about paths, including what they’re used for, how to make them, and some ideas for you to work off of.
What Are Minecraft Paths?
Minecraft paths are excellent ways to spruce up your world. While the game features one specific way to build a Dirt path, the pathway design possibilities are endless.
But before getting into some Minecraft path inspirations, let’s break down paths as a whole.
Why Use A Minecraft Path?
Of course, a Minecraft path is never necessary, but it’s a great way to spice up your world and connect everything.
Take one of the Minecraft villages, for example. Each of these spawns with a Dirt path to lead you amongst its various houses. While you don’t have to follow the path, doing so allows you to easily explore every building and check out what they have to offer.
Otherwise, there are few pre-generated pathways in Minecraft. In that case, it’s best to create your own path designs. Let’s go over some to inspire you.
Minecraft Path Designs
To start, let’s quickly go over how to make a basic Dirt path. To make a Dirt path in Minecraft, create a Shovel using two sticks and a Wooden Plank, Cobblestone Block, Iron Ingot, Gold Ingot, or Diamond and organize them like this in a Crafting Table:
Then, take your newly crafted Shovel and right-click on Grass blocks to create a Dirt path.
However, there’s no reason to stick with a boring Dirt path for long. Instead, here are some path design ideas.
Desert Path
Personally, I love a desert path made out of contrasting materials — ones that stand out amongst the Sand rather than a path that blends into it. In my opinion, this approach makes the desert less lonely, and putting extra effort into a build like this is great fun.
This quick path blends Polished Diorite, Glowstone, Mossy Cobblestone Slabs, and Stone Brick Walls to create an elevated pathway that is distinct from the Sand around it.
The Diorite and Stone materials contrast each other quite nicely, and the Glowstone prevents Mobs from spawning while also serving as some nice eye candy.
Dirt Path
A Dirt path is an okay way to start your path-building journey, but you might want to spice it up a bit.
In this first image, the Dirt path takes us around the village and serves as a safe form of navigation. Eventually, I’d want to upgrade the materials to something more appealing than Dirt, but it’s an okay start.
Sometimes, it’s not so much about the path as it is about what surrounds it:
In this case, we’ve littered the path with Shroomlights and surrounded it with Cherry Wood and a few upgraded Village houses to make for a serene little spot.
Halloween Path
Halloween is coming up. Let’s celebrate a bit!
This pathway is a twist on the normal Dirt path. Instead of just using a Shovel and calling it a day, you can litter the pathway with Soul Sand and Crimson Nylium. From there, surround the pathway with Mycelium, Nether Brick Fences, Skeleton Heads, and some Dead Bushes for good measure.
To top it off, you can surround the pathway with Warped Stem blocks to give it an eerie blue feel. You can use all sorts of blocks to replace the ones in this image, so get creative!
Wood Path
Due to the massive collection of wood types in Minecraft, you can create a Wood Path in so many ways.
You can use Cherry Wood to line a pathway of Wood Planks, litter fences around the area, and call it a day. You can also follow the path in the image below, using Oak Planks as a base, Oak Blocks as a liner, and some Oak Fences for extra details.
There’s even some glass to add flair. Giving your pathway more detail is never a bad idea.
Bamboo Pathway
Bamboo is a very distinct block type in Minecraft, providing a unique wood look when compared to other aesthetics in the game.
In this simple pathway, we combined Bamboo Planks with Blocks of Bamboo to create a contrasting but pleasing design. Bamboo can be found in various biomes, and you can choose to keep it in the original block format or convert it into Planks. Either way, it makes for some gorgeous builds.
Now that you have some inspiration for your paths, it’s time to get in and build your own. Even better, why not do so with your friends?
