Copper Bulbs are a new block that has been recently added into Minecraft. They are from update 1.21 of Minecraft, known as the Trails and Tales update. There are eight variants of Copper Bulbs and can be found inside the Trial structures, or you can craft them yourself. These new blocks can emit light, with a varying light level depending on which kind you have. Like an average block, all variants of the Copper Bulbs are stackable up to 64. When breaking Copper Bulbs, make sure to use a stone pickaxe or better in order to pick it up after you break it.
How To Make Copper Bulbs?
Copper bulbs are crafted with x1 Redstone Dust, x1 Blaze Rod, and x3 Copper Blocks (can be weathered, oxidized, or exposed).
How To Make Waxed Copper Bulbs
To make Waxed Copper Bulbs, you first need Honeycomb. You can get Honeycomb by taking Shears to a Beehive that has honey in it, which can be indicated by yellow dripping out of the hive. When you get your Honeycomb, you can place your Copper Block down and right-click on the Copper Block with Honeycomb in hand to create a Waxed Copper Block. If you want to remove the wax: right-click on the Waxed Copper Block with any kind of axe tool.
What Does Waxing Your Copper Bulbs Even Do?
Waxing your Copper Bulbs can be extremely important if you’re strictly using them as a source of light. Waxed Copper Bulbs can’t oxidize so you’ll never have to worry about the light level going down and mobs spawning around or inside your base.
How To Get The Different Kinds of Copper Blocks
If you don’t want the regular orange look of the Copper Blocks, fear not for you can make a sort of blue variant called Oxidized Copper. To get Oxidized Copper you just need to let your Copper Blocks sit out in an open space. Over time your Copper Blocks with weather and oxidize themselves, to speed up the process you can place your Copper Blocks 4 – 5 blocks apart which will make each block oxidize quicker.
Copper Farming Tips
Copper is one of the easiest ores to find in Minecraft. It’s found in both Stone and Deepslate and can be seen with its color scheme of orange and green spots. Copper can be generated in any overworld biome except for dripstone caves. They spawn in groups from 0–16 and from Y -16– 112, but it is most commonly found on Y 47–48.
If you’re going for a surplus amount of Copper, I suggest getting Fortune 3 on your pickaxe. You can get Fortune through a librarian villager or the Enchantment Table, though a Fortune 3 book traded from a villager can vary and be costly, ranging from 11–45 emeralds and one Book.
How Do Copper Bulbs Work?
Copper Bulbs emit light. They function identically to a Redstone Lamp but with an on/off toggle. This can be essentially for players looking to incorporate these blocks into their base. These blocks can be lit up with a Button, Lever, Redstone Torch, or a Redstone Block. After lighting the block up with some redstone components, you will see a spot of red in the middle of the four corners indicating it will now stay lit until you either press a Button, flick a Lever, or place a Redstone Torch/Block again. What this means is that you do not need a continuous power to keep a Copper Bulb active. Copper bulbs simply have two toggles, on and off. You can feel free to leave Copper Bulbs active at all times. This is one of the only differences between a Copper Bulb and a Redstone Lamp. As of right now, the Copper Bulb is the only block that only needs to be activated once with redstone to be active forever. Because you don’t need a constant source of redstone, Copper Bulbs are very compact.
Difference in Copper Bulbs
For Copper Bulbs, the light level depends on what kind of Copper Bulb you are using. The difference between them is listed here:
Oxidized | 4 |
---|---|
Weathered | 8 |
Exposed | 12 |
Normal | 15 |
These values are important to know, as the amount of light level a light source has determines how bright it is. For example, torches give off a light level of 14. The normal Copper Bulb manages to hit the maximum light level of 15. This makes the Copper Bulb one of the best lights in the game. If you want less light for a more atmospheric build, the other types of Copper Bulbs can be a great fit as well. Basically, the Copper Bulb is a great source of light for any build.
What Can You Build With Copper Bulbs?
Copper Bulbs can be used in Redstone builds or as decoration blocks for your builds. You can use these to give your automatic mob farms a toggle, so they won’t always be active near your base, or if you’re looking for a different vibe to your base, you could add these!
After looking at several Copper Bulb Redstone designs, I think the best ideaI’ve found is a Chest indicator. What this does is it indicates what Chest of yours are full with the lamps underneath the Chest being turned on, this can be handy for automatic farms. You can also make locks in Minecraft with Copper Bulbs with either a tutorial or knowledge of how Redstone works.
Conclusion
Copper Bulbs, a versatile addition to Minecraft’s Trails and Tales update, offer both decorative and functional benefits. Their unique ability to toggle on and off with a single redstone pulse makes them ideal for a variety of applications, from base lighting to complex redstone contraptions. With their customizable light levels and oxidation process, Copper Bulbs provide a dynamic and visually appealing element to any Minecraft world. Whether you’re a seasoned builder or just starting your adventure, these blocks offer endless possibilities for creativity and utility.
