Finding the Woodland Mansion

In each Minecraft world, there can be more than one woodland mansion that generates. However, the reason that all the woodland mansions are hard to find is that they tend to spawn in areas that are far away from the spawn point. The nearest woodland mansion typically spawns thousands of blocks away from the spawn point that the player gets when they first spawn into the world. While they are hard to find, it isn’t impossible, and there are a few ways to find a woodland mansion easily.

Dark Forest Biomes

Woodland mansions can only spawn in dark forest biomes. Dark forest biomes have a distinctive feature of dark oak trees and large mushrooms. If you aren’t in a biome with dark oak trees, you are in the wrong biome to find a woodland mansion. Finding a dark forest biome comes down to luck, but if you are able to find one, your chances of finding a woodland mansion increase.

Explorer Maps

Another way to locate a woodland mansion is by obtaining an explorer map from a villager. However, the type of villager you will need is very specific. The only villagers that you can obtain a woodland explorer map from are the cartographer villagers. The cartographer villager must also have a trading level of Master in order for you to be able to trade for the woodland mansion explorer map.

To increase the level of a cartographer villager, you will need to keep trading with it to level up the villager. Once you have traded enough with them, the cartographer villager will achieve the “Master” level and be able to trade the woodland mansion explorer map with you. This map will cost you 14 emeralds and a compass to obtain.

Once you obtain the map, follow the map until you reach a woodland mansion.

Regular Rooms

Regular rooms are rooms that imitate the rooms of a normal house. Some rooms contain loot chests while most rooms don’t. However, if you want to just admire the creation and building abilities of the developers, take a good look around at each room.

Secret Rooms

Inside the mansion, there are walls separating mansion rooms. Between each room, there is a chance that the walls may contain secret rooms. The best way to find secret rooms on the first floor is by looking for any gaps between the rooms because secret rooms have no windows. You can sometimes spot a secret room by looking through the windows of the second and third floors. On the third floor, you can mine the cobblestone roof and look to see if there are any secret rooms. If you are only looking for the loot in the secret room, you can also burn down the mansion as the loot chests and diamond blocks are fireproof.

Woodland Mansion Mobs

The woodland mansion is a very dangerous place to explore if you are not prepared. Due to the structure being made up of dark oak planks and dark oak logs, the woodland mansion’s interior lighting is very dark, so overworld mobs can spawn inside during the day. The entrance of the woodland mansion is also open, so many mobs that spawn outside end up wandering inside the woodland mansion during nighttime.

Illagers

In addition overworld mobs, the inhabitants of the woodland mansion are also very territorial and will attack you on site. The woodland mansion is usually inhabited by illagers. There are two kinds of illagers that can spawn naturally inside the woodland mansion, and each has a unique attack method.

Vindicators

A vindicator may look friendly at first, but once it sees you, it will charge at you with an axe. These mobs do a lot of damage if they hit you, so the best way to fight them is by using bows and arrows to avoid getting close to them.

Vindicators can spawn on all of the floors of the mansion and sometimes the rooms of the mansion, so be very careful when walking into a room.

Evokers

Evokers are magicians who spawn little flying minions called vexes to fight for them. These small and blue flying minions are hard to hit and do quite a bit of damage with their swords. They also tend to disappear into the floors or walls after attacking. Evokers can also hit you with spells. You will only find evokers on the second and third floors of the mansion.

Once you kill an evoker, it will always drop a Totem of Undying.

Fighting Illagers

While fighting an illager can be scary due to how much damage they deal, it can be easy as long as you fight with their weakness. Once you kill a vindicator or evoker in a woodland mansion, they will not be able to respawn.

To fight a vindicator, use bows and arrows to stay as far away as you can. Also, try to fight each vindicator individually and not to let them group up together, or they will overwhelm you.

To fight an evoker, you can also use a bow and arrow to sneak up on them. The best way is to kill them as fast as you can so they don’t spawn too many vexes to overwhelm you. Evokers will try to run away from you if you get close, so fighting them in a room or a corner would be the best way to beat them.

Exploring the Woodland Mansion

There are a few ways you can explore the woodland mansion depending on what kind of player you are.

Making it a Base

If you are looking to conquer the woodland mansion and use it as your base, make sure you light up every part of the mansion as you explore to secure the area. This way, no random mobs can spawn inside the structure. You will also have to clear out each room and ensure that there are no more wandering illagers inside the woodland mansion.

Looting the Base

If you are looking to loot the woodland mansion, make sure to check every single room for loot chests and also the walls in case of a secret room. Light up the area behind you to keep track of where you have been and avoid mobs spawning behind you. Another technique that many players use is to burn the mansion so that they can locate the loot without needing to explore.

Admiring the Base

If you like looking at architecture and structures, you might want to look at every room carefully. Each room has its own unique design, making it a pretty cool place to explore. Check out every room and see if you can gather some decoration or building ideas to implement in your own house.

Player Opinion on Woodland Mansions

While the woodland mansion is a massive structure, it is pretty underwhelming for how big it is. If you are looking for good loot while exploring a woodland mansion, you might be disappointed after you’ve finished exploring. Most players will agree that the loot isn’t worth the exploration and recommend new players to just avoid it.

The only loot that would be somewhat worth it to find is the Totem of Undying, which you can only obtain by killing evokers.

However, if you are a new player or just a player who wants to adventure around the realm of Minecraft, the woodland mansion can be a pretty fun place to explore despite the lack of loot. The structures and decorations are still pretty fun to see and admire.
