You’ll discover all sorts of crops in your Minecraft world. Some of these crops, like Wheat, grow into valuable food items like Bread. Others, such as Sugar Cane, can turn into Paper.
However, one specific item, the Carved Pumpkin, provides all sorts of benefits. Created from an Uncarved Pumpkin, this item allows you to build defensive mobs, to protect yourself from Endermen, and much more.
This guide will cover everything you need to know about Carved Pumpkins, how to farm Pumpkins, and much more.
What Is A Pumpkin?
The Pumpkin in Minecraft is an orange block that grows in many biomes. It grows via a stem, meaning that every time you harvest the Pumpkin, the stem will grow another one without your involvement. This will continue as long as you don’t harvest the stem as well.

Pumpkin growth requires clear grass blocks surrounding it with open air above it. To grow pumpkins yourself, you must use Pumpkin Seeds.
What Are Pumpkin Seeds?
Pumpkin Seeds in Minecraft are precisely what they sound like — a method of growing the coveted Pumpkin.

To plant these Seeds, you must till some grass with a Hoe and plant them. Then, they must be around water to grow.

The Pumpkin stem will change colors as it grows, and upon completion, a Pumpkin will appear next to the stem’s location rather than replacing it like many other plants in Minecraft work. This means that one stem will grow unlimited Pumpkins, continually growing another one after you harvest it.
To acquire Pumpkin Seeds, you can place a Pumpkin in a Crafting Table to break it down into four seeds or trade for them via Wandering Trader. You can also shear a Pumpkin to generate four seeds.

Pumpkin Pie
You can combine a Pumpkin with Sugar and an Egg to create Pumpkin Pie.
Pumpkin Pie restores eight pieces of your hunger meter, making it a valuable item to keep on hand while exploring.
To create a Pumpkin Pie, organize the materials as follows in a Crafting Table:

Note Blocks Alteration
If you weren’t aware of how a Note Block works in Minecraft, you can place various items underneath them to produce specific sounds.
In this case, you can place a Carved Pumpkin under a Note Block to produce Didgeridoo sounds.
Of course, you’ll need a Note Block before you can do this. To create a Note Block, organize eight Wooden Planks and one Redstone Dust in a Crafting Table as follows:

What Is The Carved Pumpkin Minecraft Item?
Once you’ve acquired some Pumpkins, it’s reasonable you’d want to explore carving them.
The Carved Pumpkin Minecraft item is a fun decoration, of course, especially as we approach Halloween. However, Carved Pumpkins have some gameplay effects as well.
Carved Pumpkin Helmet Slot
You can use a Carved Pumpkin as a helmet in Minecraft. While it doesn’t provide any armor value, wearing the item portrays a cool “carved face” display over your user interface.

Also, you can stare at Endermen while wearing a Carved Pumpkin, and they won’t attack you.
Building a Snow or Iron Golem
Iron Golems and Snow Golems are defensive mobs that protect Villagers from threats. These entities roam around where Villagers live, keeping an ever-watchful eye on them.
While a Snow Golem or Iron Golem can automatically spawn near Villagers who need protection, you can also build your own with a Carved Pumpkin.
Iron Golem
Iron Golems require four Iron Blocks. Iron Blocks are made in a Crafting Table with nine Iron Ingots, as shown here:

Once you have the blocks, organize them as follows and top the creation with a Carved Pumpkin:

Once done, you’ll have a brand new Iron Golem!

Snow Golem
A Snow Golem is similar to the Iron Golem, only Snow Golems require Snow Blocks. To create Snow Blocks, organize four Snowballs as follows in a Crafting Table:

Next, place Snow Blocks as follows and top them with a Carved Pumpkin:

Once it all comes together, you’ll have the snow version of a Golem!

Jack o’ Lantern
Finally, you can make a Jack o’Lantern with a Carved Pumpkin.
The Jack o’ Lantern is an alternative, spooky light source you can use to light up anywhere you’d like in your Minecraft world.
To create a Jack o Lantern, simply bring a Carved Pumpkin and a Torch into a Crafting Table, and organize them as follows:

Then, you can place the item to light up a dark room or cave.

How To Make Carved Pumpkins
Making a Carved Pumpkin in Minecraft is actually quite easy. All you need to do is find a normal Pumpkin and use Shears on it.
To make Shears, organize two Iron Ingots in a Crafting Table as follows:

Then, walk up to a Pumpkin and interact with it while holding Shears. This will create a Carved Pumpkin:

Now that you’re aware of everything there is to know about Carved Pumpkins in Minecraft, why not get together with some friends and create some together?
