Minecraft as a game has so much in store for its players. You’ll be able to discover so many different types of biomes, items, and blocks. Some blocks hide treasures that are waiting to be found. From historic Pottery Sherds to resources, Suspicious Sand can lead you to unique discoveries.
When interacting with Suspicious Sand, however, the mechanic is quite different and you’ll need a special tool to do so. This adds a layer of adventure and excitement within the game, encouraging you to enjoy the process of finding valuable loot within this rather suspicious block.
If you haven’t encountered Suspicious Sand yet, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll be guiding you through this mysterious block, how you can get loot from it, and other strategies for finding Suspicious Sand that has the specific loot you want.
What is Suspicious Sand?
Similar to a normal Sand Block, Suspicious Sand is a type of sand block that’s affected by gravity. Based on its namesake, Suspicious Sand is suspicious because of the loot that can be obtained from it such as Pottery Sherds.

Like Suspicious Gravel and Trial Chambers, you too can get Pottery Sherds from this sand. Extracting these treasures can’t be done when you immediately break the block as you need a specific tool to get the loot from it.
Keep in mind that you can’t get this type of sand by mining. Even if you use any type of tool enchanted with Silk Touch, you won’t be able to get this item. In line with that, through natural generation, suspicious sand is found by actually looking for these blocks. So this means you’ll have to put some effort into finding them and the treasures they hold.
If you’re in Creative Mode and have placed a block of Suspicious Sand, you can interact with this block by using the “data modify block” command to add an item to the block you’ve just placed.
Simply type this command “/data modify block ~ ~-1 ~ item set value {id:”minecraft:stone”,Count:1b}” and just edit the ID of the item you want to place. SR400X on YouTube has a full tutorial for this for your reference. Be sure to stand on the block of Suspicious Sand for this to work. This makes Suspicious Sand useful if you want to hold treasure hunts for your friends within your server.

Furthermore, Suspicious Sand Blocks break immediately if you try pushing them with Pistons or Sticky Pistons to try and move them. Explosions also affect the block in the same way.
Difference between Suspicious Gravel from Suspicious Sand
Also introduced alongside the Suspicious Sand is the Suspicious Gravel. This type of gravel works the same way as normal sand and gravel. You’ll mainly encounter this mysterious type of gravel block by Ocean Ruins and Trail Ruins.

Suspicious Sand and Gravel also have almost the same type of loot you can get such as any of the Pottery Sherds.
Overall, Suspicious Sand and Suspicious Gravel will work like any other falling block. The only difference is that they have an item within them and destroying this type of solid block won’t drop the item stored within it. Plus, Suspicious Gravel are rarer to find, with their usual location being within Trail Ruins.
Where do I find Suspicious Sand?
Because of the archaeological style of loot discovery that comes with Suspicious Sand, you’ll often find this within sandy sites. These are scattered within your Minecraft world and it’s up to you to venture out to look for them.

You can usually count on a Desert Temple’s Suspicious Sand Blocks, a Desert Well’s Suspicious Sand Blocks, and the Ocean Ruins’ Suspicious Sand Blocks to generate the mysterious type of sand block you’re looking for.
