Iron Ingots are the final stepping stone towards acquiring Diamond. After all, you can start mining the fated resources with an Iron Pickaxe onward. It’s only fair, then, that you’d want to gather as much Iron as you can as fast as possible.
This article will cover just that, with steps for building an efficient Iron Farm. Let’s get into Iron Farms, what they do, and how to get them functioning properly.
What Is A Minecraft Iron Farm?
An Iron Farm is a way of quickly gathering a ton of Iron with minimal effort. It’s a great way to hoard the material and create tools like Pickaxes, Shovels, Swords, and more. Iron is also helpful for a variety of items like Buckets and Armor. It’s one of those resources you want a lot of, hence the viability of an Iron Farm.
There are many ways to build an Iron Farm, but one of the most efficient Iron farm methods is with Iron Golems.
What Are Iron Golems?
Iron Golems are defensive mobs that you can build with Iron Blocks. It’s a mob that roams around Villages and protects the Villagers within them. A Golem will attack enemies of all kinds, acting as a sort of friend for the game’s NPCs.
That said, if you attack the Iron Golem, it will attack you back. It will also attack you if you attack Villagers nearby, making it the true Villager defender.
How to Spawn Iron Golems
There are two ways for Iron Golems to spawn. The first is through Villagers spawning them if none are around, and the other is to build one yourself.
Building an Iron Golem requires four Iron Blocks and one variety of Pumpkin.
Iron Blocks
It’s a bit ironic that we need Iron Golems for an Iron Farm, but building those Golems requires quite a few Iron Ingots, but here we are.
To create an Iron Block, organize nine Iron Ingots via Crafting Table as follows:
You need four Iron Blocks to create an Iron Golem.
Pumpkin
In both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, you can use a Jack o’Lantern or a Carved Pumpkin to build Iron Golems. Bedrock Edition also allows for a normal Pumpkin, but this doesn’t apply to Java Edition.
To find a Pumpkin, you can either grow one using Pumpkin Seeds or find them while exploring in many of the game’s grass biomes.
To turn a normal Pumpkin into a Carved Pumpkin, use Shears on it.
Finally, combine a Carved Pumpkin with a Torch to create a Jack o’Lantern:
Now that you have all of the items required, place the Iron Blocks as follows in the Overworld and top them with one of the Pumpkin items:
An Iron Golem will spawn immediately after placing the last block.
Now that you know how to create an Iron Golem, let’s get into how to make an Iron Farm.
How To Make Iron Farms
Step #1
We’ll be using this guide to make an Iron Farm. Make sure to do this near a Village, as you need to bring Villagers down into a cave. We’ll be using them as Zombie bait to ensure an Iron Golem spawns. Then, we’ll automate the process of defeating it to gather its resources.
Create a three block hole that’s seven blocks deep.
Step #2
Head down below and dig a 3×3 hole two layers deep on one of the sides.
Step #3
Set three beds down in the hole you made.
Step #4
Turn around and place two Oak Slabs and a Trap Door as follows:
Step #5
Dig two layers beyond the Trap Door.
Step #6
Then, dig two blocks into the far wall and into the ceiling.
Step #7
Place a Boat and a Torch as follows:
Step #8
Next, create a staircase out of the Iron Farm and place a Torch every two blocks.
Step #9
Cover up the top stair and place a Trap Door on either side of the pit.
Step #10
Back at the original hole, build a set of stairs down to the Beds.
Step #11
Wait until nighttime and guide three Villagers down into the Iron Farm. They will sleep in the Beds. Block the stairs so they cannot come back up.
Step #12
Lead a Zombie down the stairs with the Trap Doors, and it will sit in the Boat. Then, fill in the entire staircase and remove the Trap Doors.
Step #13
Next, dig out one block away from the Iron Farm and dig eight blocks toward the Zombie in the Boat. Also, make the pit two blocks deep.
Step #14
Place a Water Bucket in the corner of each pit on the side where the Zombie is.
Step #15
Dig a hole three blocks deep into the wall where the water does not cover. Then, place a double Chest and a Hopper within.
Step #16
Place a Stair upside down above the Chest and next to the Hopper:
Step #17
Put a block above the Stair and set up five Signs as follows:
Step #18
Finally, place Lava in between the three Signs against the wall:
From here, Iron Golems will spawn in the water area to protect the Villagers underground. Remember, the Zombie is down there as a threat. The water will push the Iron Golem into the Lava and defeat it. The Golem will drop Iron Ingots into the Hopper, and the Chest will collect them.
Now that you’re aware of how to make an Iron Farm, why not get some friends together to hoard Iron Ingots together?
