Armor has been a coveted Minecraft item since the game’s launch. For instance, you know you’re on top of the world if you have a complete set of Diamond armor. The insurmountable effort it took to acquire those materials was no joke.
Yet, it has been a long time since Minecraft’s launch. Since then, the game has added all sorts of goals to chase after. One such goal is trimmed armor. If you’re interested in these armor-tweaking visuals, this guide will cover all armor trims Minecraft has to offer.

What Are Armor Trims In Minecraft?
Armor trims in Minecraft are aesthetic changes you can make to your traditional armor.
These trims don’t add any gameplay-specific adjustments. They’re simply for cosmetic preference.
That said, armor trims do look very cool, and having them can make you stand out from your friends. Going after armor trims is a worthy quest, but be wary — they’re not easy to find.
How To Find An Armor Trim In Minecraft?
Armor trims are one of the most challenging quests to fulfill in Minecraft. Finding the few items you need takes a few steps, and applying those items takes even more.
First, let’s review how to find an Armor Trim Smithing Template.
Armor Trim Smithing Template
An Armor Trim Smithing Template is a rare template used for trimming armor.
You cannot craft these items; you must find them while exploring rare areas like Jungle Temples or Woodland Mansions.
While exploring these areas, you’re bound to come across chests full of items. It’s within these chests that Smithing Templates may lie.
That’s the thing — there’s no guarantee one of these items will spawn. If one doesn’t spawn in a chest you’ve found, you must explore all over again until one does.
However, consider yourself lucky when one does spawn. The Smithing Template that appears can vary based on the structure you’re exploring.
Each Armor Trim Smithing Template applies a different trim pattern to your armor.
It’s best to research which Smithing Templates appear in which locations and the pattern that each applies.
For example, an Eye Armor Trim Smithing Template may spawn in a Stronghold Library chest, while a Ward Armor Trim Smithing Template may spawn in Ancient Cities.
An Elder Guardian, which hangs out in Ocean Monuments, may also drop a Tide Armor Smithing Template upon defeat. The chances of this are quite low, keep in mind.
Trimming Armor
Now that you’ve acquired a Smithing Template, craft a Smithing Table using two Iron Ingots and four Wood Planks.
Next, bring the armor piece you’d like to trim as well as the Smithing Template from before. Finally, you’ll need a material for the color you want to apply.
This part is pretty simple. Gold Ingots apply a gold-colored trim, while Emerald applies a greenish color. Experiment to see what other color combos you can find!
Combine the three items as follows:
Congratulations! You have now trimmed armor. Next, let’s review all of the different armor trims in Minecraft. We’ll be applying a golden trim to Diamond Armor each time.
Wayfinder Armor Trim
The Wayfinder Armor Trim features Tetris-block-based patterns littered around the armor pieces.
Raiser Armor Trim
The Raiser Armor Trim features random dotted patterns around the edges of your armor pieces.
Shaper Armor Trim
The Shaper Armor Trim is relatively light, all things considered. It features very subtle patterns, letting the primary armor color shine through.
Rib Armor Trim
The Rib Armor trim lives up to its name — creating a rib-like pattern on each armor piece.
Eye Armor Trim
The Eye Armor Trim features a massive eye in the middle of the chestplate. It’s undoubtedly the most standout set we’ve covered so far.
Spire Armor Trim
The Spire Armor Trim is made up of many solid lines, though there are some Tetris pieces sprinkled throughout.
Snout Armor Trim
The Snout Armor Trim looks somewhat like a snout, though we’re sure it’s meant to resemble Piglins… somehow.
Host Armor Trim
The Host Armor Trim almost seems like a rearranged Spire Armor Trim set — many lines are arranged near the armor’s edges.
Silence Armor Trim
Minecraft’s Silence Armor Trim is arguably the most interesting of all the armor — or, at least, its most visible. This set spreads itself over your armor pieces, creating an almost parasitic look.
Coast Armor Trim
Like many of its contemporaries, the Coast Armor Trim set is just a slight altercation. Its trim pattern isn’t anything crazy, but it adds a nice tweak to your armor.
Wild Armor Trim
With a name like Wild Armor Trim, you’d think this set would be a little more crazy. Instead, it’s a rather subtle alteration.
Vex Armor Trim
The Vex Armor Trim is a relatively standout set. It features a massive line down its center, extending from the chest piece to the boots.
Sentry Armor Trim
The Sentry Armor Trim sports a neat cross in its middle, probably representing a crosshair. This is Sentry Armor, after all.
Dune Armor Trim
The Dune Armor Trim looks slightly like the Eye Armor Trim, especially in its center, but the set stands out in its own way.
Ward Armor Trim
The Ward Armor Trim features what looks like a face on its center. Maybe it’s meant to ward off enemies as they approach.
Tide Armor Trim
Last but not least, we have the Tide Armor Trim. The Tide Armor almost seems like an inverse of the Vex Armor set, covering the areas the latter leaves open. It’s a good look.
