Diamond Armor is one of the most coveted items in Minecraft. It offers excellent levels of Protection. However, you can make it even better with Enchantments.
You can apply Enchantments to Armor through multiple ways, such as using an Enchanting Table or discovering Enchanted Books through loot Chests. Either way, this list will go over some of the best Armor set Enchantments Minecraft has to offer.
Best Armor Enchantments Minecraft
This is a list of the best Armor Enchantments in Minecraft. Keep in mind that while some of these are conflicting Enchantments with one another, there are some you can add to the same Armor piece to create a compelling piece of kit. Keep all of this in mind while reading the article.
For more information on other Enchantments, such as how to use an Enchanting Table or some of the game’s best Bow Enchantments, check out our other guides.
1. Protection IV
You can apply Protection to any of your Armor pieces, increasing its general damage resistance.
That’s right, each piece of Armor with the Protection IV enchantment will reduce the damage you take from most hits.
However, there are a few exceptions here.
For one, this will not protect you from damage taken while hungry. It will also not protect you from the Warden’s sonic boom nor save you from death when falling into the End.
Of course, this Enchantment does protect you from fall damage alongside normal damage, which is a decent bonus.
Protection IV is the highest level in the game.
2. Unbreaking
If you’ve read any of our other Enchantment guides, you may have come across the Unbreaking Enchantment.
Typically, we’ve only covered this Enchantment in the case of Tools and Weapons, but it also applies to Armor.
That’s right, you can level Unbreaking up to III, with each level increasing the chances of your Armor piece ignoring durability damage.
The formula is based on your Armor type as well as the Enchantment level.
You can apply Unbreaking to every armor piece.
3. Thorns
Thorns is an Enchantment that damages those who attack you. It’s kind of a dream come true — every time an attacker deals damage to you, they take it back.
It’s awesome, and higher levels deal more damage all the way up to Thorns III.
You can apply Thorns to all of your main Armor, including Diamond Boots.
4. Respiration
You can only apply the Respiration Enchantment to your Helmet, but it does a lot of good.
This Enchantment increases your underwater breathing time, with each level increasing it by 15 seconds.
You can raise the Respiration Enchantment up to level III, providing a total of 60 seconds of underwater breathing time.
This amount stacks with the normal underwater breathing time, giving you even more room to explore beneath the surface.
5. Projectile Protection
The Projectile Protection Enchantment increases the damage reduction from every projectile you take. This includes Arrows from a Skeleton, Tridents from a Drowned, and more.
You can apply this Enchantment to any Armor, and the math is the same as Blast and Fire Protection. Projectile Protection also goes up to level IV.
6. Feather Falling
Feather Falling is a neat Enchantment that reduces your fall damage.
Though the name might suggest that this Enchantment slows your fall, it really just protects against the damage.
You can apply this Enchantment to all of your Armor types, and it goes up to level IV.
Each level of Feather Falling reduces fall damage by 12%, maxing out at 48% at level IV.
You can also stack this Enchantment with Protection to give yourself even more resistance to falling.
Obtaining Feather Falling can take some time, as it’s one of the rarest Enchantments that you can get from an Enchantment Table.
7. Blast Protection
Blast Protection is a twist on normal Protection, though this one is focused on explosions from Fireworks, TNT, and Creepers, among similar ones.
You can apply this Enchantment to all Armor types, with each level resisting about 8% of explosion damage per.
This means that Blast Protection IV, the Enchantment’s highest level, provides a 32% damage reduction from explosions.
8. Fire Protection
Yet another Protection-focused Enchantment, Fire Protection does precisely what it sounds like — protects you from fire damage such as Lava, Magma, Campfires, and more.
It’s worth noting that this will not protect you from Blaze attacks, as those are considered melee, though it will protect you from the fireballs that the monster casts.
You can apply the Fire Protection Enchantment to any armor piece, and the math relevant to Blast Protection remains the same here.
9. Swift Sneak
Swift Sneak is an interesting enchantment in that you can’t get it randomly from an Enchantment Table.
Instead, you have to find it in Chests while exploring Ancient Cities.
Within these Chests, you may discover a Book with Swift Sneak.
From there, you can apply it to your Leggings via an Anvil.
Swift Sneak goes up to level III, increasing your Sneak speed by 15% per level.
You’ll move at 75% of your normal walking speed if you have a level III Swift Sneak Enchantment.
This is a great Enchantment to have for PvP, as Sneaking hides your name from other players.
With a faster move speed, you can get the drop on them in no time.
10. Soul Speed
The Soul Speed Enchantment increases your movement speed on Soul Sand or Soul Soil — an ideal Enchantment to have while exploring the Nether.
Funnily enough, you can only get this Enchantment in the Nether itself by bartering with Piglins.
That, or you can sometimes find it on Golden Boots that a Piglin may drop after you defeat it.
Soul Speed applies only to your Boots and can go up to level III. Each level’s speed increments are as follows:
- Level 1: 40.5% speed increase
- Level 2: 51% speed increase
- Level 3: 61.5% speed increase
Of course, this article only focuses on Armor pieces. There are other awesome Enchantments to combine these with, such as Frost Walker or Aqua Affinity.
As for Weapons, there’s the Fire Aspect Weapon Enchantment, or Sweeping Edge III for Java Edition players. What’s great about Minecraft is that it combines Armor and Weapon Enchantments to create the ultimate set.
