Minecraft Roof designs are essential when it comes to making your building look good in the Minecraft world. With the lack of physics for most things in Minecraft, players are allowed to build any type of roof they can imagine. However, most players find it hard to know which types of roofs look good on their house. Luckily, there are many roof types in the real world that can be used to help design a roof that fits your Minecraft structure. This blog aims to help you generate some ideas for what type of roof you want.
Minecraft Roof Types
#1. Flat Roof
A flat roof is the easiest roof to build in Minecraft. To create a flat roof, all you have to do is place a single layer of blocks atop the walls. Despite its simplicity, flat roofs can transform a house into a modern and cool-looking house if given the proper materials and building structure. If you want to experiment with implementing your flat roof onto modern houses, choosing materials like quartz and smooth stone helps enhance the modern look. Flat roofs also look great in large buildings like skyscrapers, allowing you to maintain the balance and look of a tall building. If you want to avoid mobs spawning on the top of your roof, you can use slabs for your roof.

#2. Gable Roof
A gable roof is a roof with two sloped sides that end at the top of the roof where the two slopes meet, giving it a clean look. The top of the building is a pitched or peaked roof. The roof shape looks like a triangle and is one of the most common roof types. Gable roof is a typical roof type that you can find on village buildings. This is a classic and simple design that will enhance a home-like feel for your building structure.

#3. Mono Pitched Roof
A mono pitched roof has a simple but unique design. Their roof is a single slanted roof that goes from a high to low point. Mono pitched roofs have the least amount of roof space, meaning that it requires the fewest materials to build this kind of roof. You can either use slabs or stairs to build an upwards slope to create the roof. If you are looking to save resources while building a high-quality and sleek look for your roof, this type of roof is perfect for you.

#4. Clerestory Roof
A clerestory roof is essentially an extension of a mono pitched roof. However, instead of just one sloped roof, a clerestory roof combines two diagonal roof panels next to each other, leaving a gap between the roofs for natural light and clerestory windows. The two roofs have varying heights with one being a bit higher than the other to create the gap. Clerestory roofs are designed for modern house and give it a distinctive and sophisticated roof design.

#5. A-frame Roof
An A-frame roof is called an A-frame because it has the character ‘A’ shape. The design of the roof originated from Viking structures and homes. The roof of the house is also sloped like many other roofs, but instead of stopping halfway, the roof extends all the way to the ground. If you’d like to have a primitive and old look to your house, A-frame roofs are the way to go.

#6. Gambrel Roof
A gambrel roof has a similar roof structure to an A-frame roof. The only difference is that the roof doesn’t touch the ground and is only as tall as half of the building. Gambrel roofs have two slopes on each side and combine shallow and steep pitches together. Compared to the A-frame, the gambrel roof increases the pitch of the roof, which in turn increases the volume of space available underneath the roof. Gambrel roofs are often used as barn roofs, but they can also be used to create a medieval feel to your building.

#7. Saltbox Roof
In real life, saltbox roofs are used to keep rain and snow off the roof, but since this is Minecraft, there’s no need to worry about that. A saltbox roof looks like a typical roof, except they have two different pitches and meet on one side of the building, creating an asymmetric look. A saltbox roof is similar to a gable roof, except that one slope of the roof is longer than the other. This type of roof gives off a rebellious look with the asymmetric roof, and adds a cool style to the house.

#8. Butterfly Roof
A butterfly roof is an elegant roof that encapsulates the look of a butterfly. The roof is designed with a dramatic V-shape and the edge of the roof has a small overhang that separates the roof from the walls creating a flying effect. The butterfly roof is a really popular design for modern houses and gives off a magical feel to the house. It’s also a great roof design if your house is on the shorter side. If you want to create a more natural vibe, use wood as your building blocks.

#9. Mansard Roof
A mansard roof is a type of roof that has four sloping sides, with each side of the roof having a higher pitch than most roofs. This way, instead of being restricted like a triangle roof would, mansard roof provides increased usable volume under the roof. The top of the roof becomes flat instead of meeting each other, thus creating a box-like look. A mansard roof is based on a traditional European roof, so if you are looking for an international look to your house, try building a mansard roof. If you want, you can also include windows on the roof to add a more aesthetically pleasing look.

#10. Curved Roof
A curved roof has a bow-like shape to the sides of the roof hanging over the edge. The shape of the curved roof resembles a rainbow, which provides a visual elegance to the structure. Curved roofs are easy to create and are also visually appealing. The increased pitch and space the roof gives you an option to create a two-story-tall building and separate your top and bottom floor.
For an example on how to build a curved roof, check out Dr. Dray‘s video titled ‘15 Different Roof Shapes in Minecraft – Minecraft How-To’ on YouTube: link to video (@11:43 of the video)
Even if it’s a simple design, roofs can help increase the coziness and appearance of a simple house. There are many roof designs that can be created in Minecraft due to the flexibility and abundance of building blocks. There is no limit to what you can build and once you have the final result, you can show your friends a great example of what a roof looks like!
