Lagging computers, frame stuttering, and online players teleporting everywhere on your screen. These are all things that make playing the game of Minecraft unenjoyable for players. One of the biggest causes of frame drops and lag is having too many mobs or other entities in your Minecraft world. Luckily, there are Minecraft commands that allow players to resolve these issues and make their frame rate better. This helpful guide will give you step-by-step instructions on how to use these commands.
Enabling Cheats in Minecraft
The first step to having access to commands is enabling cheats in Minecraft. There are different ways to do this in each version of Minecraft:
Java Edition
To enable cheats in Minecraft Java edition, you must launch Minecraft in Java Edition. After clicking play and allowing the menu to load, click “Singleplayer” and then the “Create New World” option. When you create a new world, there should be an option of “Allow Cheats.” Make sure that the option is turned on. You can then create a world where you have access to cheats.
Bedrock Edition, Pocket Edition, Education Edition
The process for enabling cheats should be the same across Minecraft Bedrock, Minecraft PE (Pocket Edition), and Minecraft Education. You must first create a world on your chosen platform. Then, you access the menu by pressing “Escape” then clicking “Options”. Click on the “Game” button under “World”, then scroll down to the bottom until your find an “Enable Cheats” option. Make sure to toggle the option to ON by clicking on it. The slider should move to the right indicating that you have successfully enabled cheats. You now have access to commands inside your world.
How to Execute a Command
Opening your Chat Window
After your world has successfully loaded, the first step would be opening your chat window. Each platform and console has its own way of opening chat windows. Below are supported platforms and the way to open the chat window on each platform.
Java Edition/Bedrock Edition/Education Edition
To access the chat on these editions, press the “T” key or “/” key.
Pocket Edition
To access the chat on this edition, tap on the icon at the top of your screen that looks like a message box.
Xbox/PlayStation
To open the chat window on these consoles, press the D-pad right on your controller.
Nintendo Switch
To open the chat window on this console, press the “Right button” on your controller.
Typing in a Command
After opening your chat window, you can type any command that you want. Make sure that you have the slash key (“/”) before every command or no command would work. The specific type of command we will be looking at is the kill command. Below are types of commands that you can use to kill mobs and other entities.
Command: /kill or /kill @s
While the two kill commands are different, they essentially do the same thing. /kill will kill your own player, while /kill @s will kill the player that is inputting the command. This command, however, will not work on players that are in creative mode.
Command: /kill <TARGET>
To kill a specific player, type /kill <player name>. For example, if you wanted to kill a player named “apples123” in Minecraft, you would type /kill apples123.
Command: /kill @e
/kill @e is the easiest way to get rid of entities that you don’t want. Examples and instructions for specific mobs are given down below:
- /kill @e[type!=player]: this command is useful if there are things you want to exclude from killing. For example, this command kills all the mobs in the world excluding players.
- /kill @e[type=skeletons, type=zombies, type=creepers]: this command targets and kills skeleton, zombie, and creeper. If you want to kill other mobs, you can put the name of the mob after “type=”.
- /kill @e[distance=10]: this command kills every entity within a 10 block radius of you.
- /kill @e[type=skeleton, r=10]: this command kills all skeletons within a 10 block radius of you.
The /kill @e command kills every mob immediately after you press enter. However, the slime mobs are the only mobs that are a little different. Typically, after a slime is killed, the slime will split in smaller slimes. The same thing happens when killing a slime with a command. You might have to run multiple commands to kill the entire slime.
Conclusion
If you ever find your frames dropping due to your monster farming machine or your farm has too many animals. Make sure to use this command as it might be helpful in solving any lagging issues.
