Minecraft as a game has two paths players can choose from. You can either survive the night, battling fearsome creatures across different biomes, or build pretty much anything, with just the limit of your imagination. Ranging from trapdoor-made furniture to huge structures, this includes Minecraft castles, with the Minecraft community seeing a wide range of castle builds throughout the years.

Some castles can be built on your own, while other designs may require some help from your friends. Besides replicating designs, you can also be inspired by what the Minecraft community has made to develop your own Minecraft castle.

But before we get into some of the best Minecraft castle ideas, there are some things you need to prepare when it comes to building them. Here’s our guide on what you should know before creating Minecraft castles.

  • What should I consider when making a Minecraft castle?
  • Where do I get inspiration for Minecraft castle ideas?

What should I consider when making a Minecraft castle?

When building a Minecraft castle, first consider the purpose of building one. Will it just be for you to live in? Is it part of your community’s narrative? Or do you want to build it for purely aesthetic purposes? This can help you narrow down what you’re looking for.

Another thing to consider is the space you’ll be building with and the materials you have. If you’re thinking of having several rooms or floors, you’re going to need more space for these.

An example of a Minecraft castle layout and the space needed.

Then for materials, think about the blocks you might need and how long will it take for you to get them. For some designs, there are specific blocks found in far-off biomes just for a particular detail. It will certainly be more challenging to build large castles in survival mode because you need to think about surviving and getting enough materials.

In line with time, some Minecraft castles are simple enough and can be accomplished within a few hours. In contrast, others can take a couple of days.

Now that you know the considerations you should have before building a Minecraft castle, we can move on to getting inspiration for a build.

Where do I get inspiration for Minecraft castle ideas?

Inspiration for Minecraft castle ideas can come from a variety of places. While it’s easy to type in your search browser, try exploring other platforms.

Places like YouTube, Pinterest, and Instagram have a lot of Minecraft community members who post their builds to inspire other players. Some of the posted castle designs also have embedded links to step-by-step guides and tutorials for building a design.

Another unique source of inspiration is looking at real-life architecture. From references to a medieval castle to a Japanese castle, world history has a lot to offer. Additionally, popular media such as fantasy movies can give you something to springboard from.

The in-game biomes in Minecraft can also be a good starting point. It’ll even be more convenient for you since you can get the materials you need around you.

The 7 Best Minecraft Castle Ideas

If you’re still looking for more inspiration, we’ve gathered seven of the best Minecraft castle ideas you can use for your next build.

#1. Starter Survival Castle

This first castle is beginner-friendly and can be done in survival mode. It’s compact, and you only need to mainly gather Stone and Wood to build this Starter Survival Castle.

Besides its stone and wood structure, you can also find that some minor details help add a hint of design to it. There’s the flag on the tower section of the castle and small bushes and Hay Bales surrounding it.

The interior space has the right amount of space for your basic needs such as storage, crafting, and sleeping at the end of each day. Another cool feature of this build is that it has a basement that you can use for mining sessions or making underground farms.

Building this castle is fairly easy and you can follow this guide by Gorillo.

#2. Small Castle with Moat

If you plan to take up your castle design up a notch, there’s this small castle design which is surrounded by a moat of water. This castle has several rooms, four towers, a drawbridge entrance, and more details you need to pay attention to when building it.

While the guide for this by andyisyoda isn’t broken down into sections, the tutorial is still understandable as he makes certain to show outlines of layouts. This makes it easy for those starting with more intermediate builds.

Take note, however, that this build will take more resources than the previous castle as it will ask you to craft Stone Bricks and Chiseled Stone Bricks. So, prepare lots of Stone, Coal, and Furnaces for this Minecraft castle.

#3. Japanese Castle Base

A more complex design is this Japanese Castle Base. It has small ponds, a Japanese-style bridge, and even a mini-gazebo. There’s a lot of space you play around and customize to your liking.

You’ll mainly need to farm Deepslate, Acacia Wood, Stone, and Sand. Some harder-to-find materials also include Jungle Leaves, Terracotta, and Azalea flowers.

This Japanese Castle Base fits best for you and a large group of friends as it has several two Villager trading halls that can be turned into houses for your friends. Plus, the castle itself has a fully automatic storage system. Building this will take a community.

You can find a separate materials list for this castle and a video guide by Cortezerino. Each component of this Japanese Castle base is also broken down into several other tutorials which is very helpful.

#4. Diorite Castle

Next is this Diorite Castle tutorial created by Stevler. He has a guide that lasts over an hour, covering a more complex style for his castle. Aspiring builders can find a courtyard, multiple towers, and interconnected buildings.

Taking on this castle will be more challenging as it asks for thousands of materials to farm for its walls, gates, and details. You might want to consider asking for help from several people to construct this.

Mainly, it’s made of Diorite which is known to be a material in Minecraft that players don’t use often. But this Minecraft castle is designed with it throughout the build.

#5. Blackstone Castle

Another notable concept from Stevler is this Blackstone Castle. A huge contrast to the Diorite Castle, this one is perfect for the upcoming Halloween season.

From asymmetrical floor leveling to differently-sized towers, the castle stands out and gives a chilling atmosphere at night. It also has prison cells, a blacksmith shop, and a potions room, making this castle thematically spooky.

You’ll mainly need Polished Blackstone Bricks and Spruce Planks for this build. Consider adding Soul Lanterns and Chains to heighten the dark atmosphere.

The guide for this castle is fairly easy to follow as the design is more straightforward.

#6. Medieval Castle

For the Medieval Castle, this is a common yet classic design seen across the Minecraft community. With numerous towers of varying heights, this creation gives a more fairytale-like feel.

You can climb up to the deck of the castle’s main building and have a view of the horizon or watch any incoming mobs coming your way. Then for the towers, you can organize different sections you’d like to put in such as throne rooms and banquet halls.

Do keep in mind that NeatCraft’s tutorial takes some time to understand because its measurements are a bit complicated.

#7. Floating Castle

Suspended high above the clouds, the Floating Castle can give your server some flair. Each section is built as separate floating islands. You’d need an Elytra to navigate each building.

There are structures underneath each floating island that reflect every tower. Moreover, the isolating aspect of this castle is perfect for those seeking a fantastical escapade.

Twin Saw’s guide for the Floating Castle is divided into five major parts, covering each building.

This build might be better constructed in creative mode due to its high difficulty. But if you ever plan to build this in survival mode, you’re going to need a lot of Scaffolding to reach the ideal height for this.

With these Minecraft castle ideas and your imagination, you’ll be able to take your Minecraft world to the next level. Whether you’re a master builder or just starting, you can use each concept and personalize it to create something epic.

Lastly, do keep in mind that making Minecraft castles is no easy task. Take your time and be patient with yourself. Every great castle starts with a vision and evolves through trial and error. Don’t be afraid to make changes along the way of building because soon you’ll find yourself making stunning masterpieces.
