Part of the fun of many survival games is their end-game challenges. Ones that require the best armor and other top-tier gear. Locations that challenge you to the best of your ability, asking you to deal massive damage and destroy some tough opposition.
Palworld is no exception. While the game launched with some end-game content like Raids, updates have introduced new locations, such as the Oil Rig.

If you’ve noticed the Oil Rig out in the distance, you’ve probably been wondering what it entails. Fortunately for you, this guide has details everything.
We’ll cover where to find the Oil Rig location on the map, which loot you can acquire by beating it, how to avoid the Rig’s heavy damage dealing hostile humans, and more. Let’s get into it.
What Is The Palworld Oil Rig Stronghold?
Developer Pocket Pair introduced the Palworld Oil Rig Stronghold with Palworld’s Sakurajima Update in June 2024. While you can attempt the Oil Rig Stronghold at any time, it’s viewed as an end-game challenge since enemies are level 50+. Of course, the recent Feybreak Update increased the game’s level cap to 60, meaning you can leave, level up to max level, and come back if the Rig is proving too much of a challenge.
Master the dodge and have a combination of strong ranged and melee weapons, as well as your own Pals, to achieve victory.
Either way, taking on the Oil Rig Stronghold is no joke. It’s full of tough enemies from the Rayne Syndicate faction. They’ll attack you with laser cannons, turrets, rocket launchers, and high-level Pals. You’ll not only want strong weapons and armor but also a powerful team of Pals to assist you.

We recommend Pals with a powerful Partner Skill to help tear the enemy down.
You’ll be used to human enemies by this point, as well as enemy Pals, so use your normal strategies to take them down. As for the firepower from the enemy turrets and laser cannons, you’ll need to find a console to turn them off. Additionally, if you leave or die on the Oil Rig, all of the enemies will respawn. Keep this in mind, as it might take you a try or two to complete it. Maybe keep a Homeward Thundercloud on hand to teleport back to your base.
Of course, completing the Oil Rig Stronghold nets you tons of rewards which we’ll cover a little later. But first, let’s discuss how to reach the Oil Rig.
Oil Rig Location
You’ll find the Oil Rig Stronghold just southeast of Marsh Island, at coordinates 538, -421. The nearest base/Fast Travel Point to it is the Marsh Island Point at 430, -345.

Getting there requires either a flying Pal or a swimming Pal. The former runs the risk of being taken down by laser cannons and turrets, so we recommend using the latter to get close. Then, switch to your flying Pal to reach the location. Of course, you can also climb the Rig. This will take you a bit longer, but removes the risk of your Pals being taken down.
What Can I Find On The Oil Rig Stronghold?
You can uncover a lot of loot on the Oil Rig Stronghold.
To start, the Syndicate Thugs you defeat will often drop Crude Oil and maybe some ammo. Outside of that, there are tons of chest locations with randomized rewards.

We’ll detail the rewards here, breaking down a few of them if necessary.
Oil Rig Chest Rewards
Ancient Civilization Core
Collect Ancient Civilization Cores by opening the main chest, the Large Yellow Chest, that appears after beating the Oil Rig.
You can use five of these rare items to craft endgame equipment like the Ultra Shield or powerful structures like the Electric Egg Incubator, amongst other rewards.

This item also drops via raid bosses, such as the Bellanoir or the Blazamut Ryu, so combine the Oil Rig Stronghold drops with those to acquire as many as possible.
Weapon Schematics
Palworld Schematics allow you to craft certain weapons or items before you unlock them in the Technology Tree. These are excellent items that can net you powerful gear long before they’re available. In the case of the Oil Rig, you can earn Schematics for a range of items.

You might find one for the Legendary Rocket Launcher or the Gatling Gun, as well as the Grenade Launcher or Missile Launcher. There are other weapon Schematics you can find, so we won’t spoil them all here.
Ammo
Chests will drop many different ammo types, like Flamethrower Fuel or Rocket Ammo. Use these to keep your high-damage weapons loaded.

Lotus
Lotus Flowers are rare items required for the creation of Remedies.
Remedies are potions that permanently increase your character’s stats. For example, a Vital Remedy permanently raises your HP stat, while a Might Remedy will increase your Attack stat.

There are five Lotus types, each representing a particular stat:
- Carrying Lotus
- Life Lotus
- Power Lotus
- Speed Lotus
- Stamina Lotus
Training Manuals
Finally, you may uncover Training Manuals while exploring the Oil Rig.

These Manuals are simple. Use one on a Pal to give it a big XP boost.
Oil Rig Chest Locations
There are twelve Treasure Chest locations on the Oil Rig, with each one providing the random rewards we discussed earlier.

Use this guide, provided by a user on Fandom, to locate them.

As for the Large Chest, it will spawn in one of four locations. The guide above also details those, so make sure to get on a flying Pal mount to search the Rig once it’s cleared.

With all of this knowledge on Oil Rig survival, its location, and tips on how to find all of its loot, do you feel prepared to take it down? Either way, you should bring some friends to fight alongside you.
