A new weapon called the mace was introduced to Minecraft in the 1.21 Tricky Trials update. The mace is a weapon that can only be found by crafting material found from opening ominous vaults in the trial chambers.
Maces are a unique type of weapon, as their damage can be amplified based on how high the player is before hitting an entity. The higher they are, the more damage they will do when they make contact. Successful attacks also allow the player to land without taking fall damage.
As a weapon, maces can be enchanted with either an enchanting table or enchanted books. One of the enchantments that is compatible with maces is the Breach enchantment.
What does Breach do in Minecraft you may ask? In this article, we will go further in depth on what the Breach enchantment does in Minecraft.
How to Craft a Mace?

Before you enchant your mace, you will need to craft the mace first. You can obtain the mace by combining a Heavy Core and Breeze Rod on a crafting table. Both of these things can be found in the trial chambers.
How to Enchant a Mace?
Enchantments are a way to enhance your weapon’s power and ability. There are two ways to enchant your mace. The first method is putting it on an enchanting table, and the second is combining it with an enchantment book.
Enchanting Table

Enchanting tables require players to use lapis lazuli to enchant. First, open the enchanting table. Then place your lapis lazuli on the right slot and mace on the left slot. The options are random, and you can only choose from the first three. There is a chance that your weapon will obtain other enchantments from the enchantment you choose.
Enchantment Books

You can find enchanted books in trial chambers or other structures. Enchanted books can also be obtained by putting lapis lazuli and books onto the enchantment table. This method is better if you’re targeting specific enchantments to put on your weapon, for instance, the Breach enchantment.

Once you have the enchanted book, combine it with your mace on an anvil.
What Does Breach Enchantment Do in Minecraft?
The Breach enchantment is very special as it doesn’t directly give you more power or damage. Instead, adding the Breach enchantment on a mace allows you to reduce the protection of a target’s armor when you attack them.
Breach Enchantment Levels
When you enchant your mace with Breach, the maximum level a Breach enchantment can go to is 4. Each level of Breach increases the percentage of an enemy’s armor that is ignored by 15%.
Breach 1: reduces the effectiveness of an entity’s armor by 15%.
Breach 2: reduces the effectiveness of an entity’s armor by 30%.
Breach 3: reduces the effectiveness of an entity’s armor by 45%.
Breach 4: reduces the effectiveness of an entity’s armor by 60%.
While Breach can help attacks break through armor, it cannot go through armor enchantments such as Protection.
Breach Compatibility

Below are a few enchantments that are incompatible with Breach, meaning you will not be able to add these enchantments to your weapon if you already have Breach.
- Density
- Sharpness
- Smite
- Bane of Arthropods
How to Fight with Breach Enchantment?
PvP vs. Mobs
The Breach enchantment is most effective when it comes to PVP gameplay and battles compared to single-player. Due to players often wearing armor, Breach helps remove the damage reduction that armor gives.
Breach is less useful when it comes to killing mobs. The only mobs that Breach could be useful against are piglins, because they occasionally wear armor. Most of the time, you will not see mobs with armor, so the use of armor reduction is usually useless when it comes to single-player games.
How to Use Mace with Breach

Maces are good when the fight is situated in an environment where you can get high ground on the enemy. If you jump off a 1.5 high block, you can perform a smash attack with a mace.
The basic damage formula for a mace with Breach enchantment is this: damage = weapon damage × (1 − max(0%, armor effect − level × 15%)). The distance you jump from increases the damage you do. For the first 3 blocks you jump from, you do an extra 4 hearts per block. For the next 5, you do an additional 2 hearts. Afterwards, you do an additional 1 heart per block.

To maximize your damage output, you can equip a secondary item that will help you elevate into the sky – the wind charge. Using the wind charge, you can create wind bursts that lift you into the air. This way you can float yourself into the air and perform a smash attack.
