you’ve ever asked yourself the question: “do Pals evolve in Palworld,” you aren’t alone. In a game full of similarities to the Pokemon movies and other games in the creature-collecting genre, it’s only natural to wonder about evolution.
This guide has the answer. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about Palworld creatures and if they evolve in Palworld, breaking down the title’s related features and systems. These policies apply no matter where you play the game, from Xbox Series consoles to PC and more.
Do Pals Evolve In Palworld?
The direct answer is no. Pals do not evolve in Palworld.
The lack of an evolution mechanic is a bit curious, considering there are Pals that look like more powerful forms of others.

However, the game is in early access, so anything is possible. Maybe they’ll add a direct evolution mechanic later on.
That said, some of the game’s alternative mechanics act similarly to evolution, such as breeding Pals or the creation of fusion Pals.
Breeding Pals
The Palworld breeding system is one of the game’s more complex mechanics. It involves building a Ranch, putting a male and a female Pal within, and then incubating the Egg they create.
But first, why mix Pals in the first place?
You see, every Pal comes with randomized skills called passive skills. Passive Skills can be negative, like Brittle, which lowers that Pal’s defense by 20%, or positive, like Mine Foreman, which increases a Player’s Mining Efficiency.

While most Passive Skills are entirely random, some Pals have specific Passive Skills every time you catch them, like Cattiva’s “coward” skill that lowers its attack by 10%.
Pals can have up to four Passive Skills at once after you capture them, though none of them can be duplicates.
Why are we telling you all of this? Well, you can pass down Passive Skills through the game’s breeding system.
When using the breeding mechanic, know that the child of two Pals has the chance to inherit up to four Passive Skills from its parents. That said, it won’t necessarily inherit the Passive Skills its parents already have. Rather, it will inherit some combination of skills from the pool of skills its parents can have.
For example, a Grizzbolt can have one of many Passive Skills. Its child will inherit any one of those skills, not necessarily the ones that its Grizzbolt parent has.

With that in mind, let’s detail the actual breeding process.
How To Breed Pals In Palworld
First, you need to build a Breeding Farm.
Unlock the Breeding Farm at level 19 in the Technology Tree with two Technology Points.
Now, you must build it with 100 Wood, 20 Stone, and 50 Fiber.

Once placed, find a male Pal and a female Pal with the Passive Skills you’d like to pass on. Place them in the Breeding Farm.
However, you can’t breed Pals without Cake.
You’ll notice the Farm has a Chest next to it. If you want your two chosen Pal species to breed, you must place a Cake inside said Chest.
Baking a Cake requires a Cooking Pot, which you unlock at Technology Tree Tier 17 for two Technology Points. Then, you can build it with 20 Wood, 15 Ingots, and three Flame Organs.

The Cake demands the following ingredients:
- Two Honey
- Five Flour
- Seven Milk
- Eight Eggs
- Eight Red Berries
After baking the Cake, place it in the Chest near the Breeding site. The Pals will eat it and eventually produce an Egg.

Now, it’s time for an Egg Incubator.
Unlock the Egg Incubator at Tier 7 in the Tech Tree with one Ancient Technology Point.
Now, build the Incubator with 10 Paldium Fragments, 30 Stone, five Cloth, and two Ancient Civilization Parts.
From there, place the Egg inside the Incubator, and it will hatch after a certain amount of time.

However, you might notice the Incubator warning you of an Egg’s temperature, stating that it’s too cold or too warm. If that’s the case, move the Incubator to another base in a different climate or build a heating/cooling structure next to the Incubator to speed up the Egg’s hatching time.
Finally, hatch the Egg once it’s done incubating. Now you can examine which Passive Skills the baby Pal has.
Fusion Pals
Fusion Pals, also known as Pal subspecies, are species of Pal with unique features taken from blending two separate Pals.
You may notice alternative versions of normal Pals while you play, such as the Eikthyrdeer Terra vs the normal Eikthyrdeer.

These alternative creatures are probably the closest thing we’ll get to an “evolve” in Palworld, as they’re the result of blending two Pals via fusion.
The fusion mechanic is essentially the same as breeding, only you’re more specific with what you breed.
For example, you will always get an Eikthyrdeer Terra, the Ground-type version of the normal Pal, by breeding an Eikthyrdeer with a Hangyu. While you can sometimes find these other species in the wild, breeding them is the only way to create such a unique Pal.
While we can’t list every combination here, as there are too many, here are a few of the more interesting alternate forms:
- Blazehowl + Felbat = Blazehowl Noct

- Broncherry + Fuack = Broncherry Aqua
- Fenglope + Azurmane = Fenglope Lux

- Kingpaca + Reindrix = Kingpaca Cryst
- Kitsun + Astegon = Shadowbeak

Shadowbeak is an interesting case, here, as the result of two Pals breeding is actually a new Pal. Shadowbeak is difficult to find while exploring, only available at the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary. Creating it via the fusion system is, in some ways, easier, and it allows you to pass down Passive Skills from the previous Pals.
That’s about all there is to know about Pals “evolving” in Palworld. With that in mind, why not try some of these fusion combinations with your friends?
