I want a good pair of noise cancelling headphones before the Thanksgiving flight to Denver, and I’ve had the Sony WH-1000XM6 sitting in a Best Buy tab for a while now. This morning it was $378 on a Techtober deal, down from $458. That’s a decent price, but I’m not paying $378 for headphones if Black Friday is about to knock it down again, and I’m definitely not checking that tab every morning until then.
So in this walkthrough I ask Hermes to watch that one product page and message me if the price drops under $320, or if it sells out and comes back.
Hermes is running on a NameHero VPS for this, so it’s always checking no matter if my computer stays on or not.
What we’re doing
We’re setting up a price watch on one product: one store, one product page, one color. Hermes checks that page on a schedule, compares the price to the number you gave it, and only messages you when it’s under. It can also watch the stock, so if the item sells out you hear about it the moment it’s back.
If you read How To Use Hermes To Watch Flight Prices And Alert You When They Drop, this is the same notify-only habit. The difference is you’re watching a single thing you’d buy at a store, not a trip.
What you’ll need
- Hermes already running on a NameHero VPS, with a working AI key so it can think. If you are still on the first hello, start with Your first conversation with Hermes. If the chat says it needs a brain, see Why does Hermes need a key from OpenAI or Anthropic?.
- The product page link. Pick the color or size you actually want first, then copy the link. The SKU (Best Buy’s item number, shown under the title) is a nice extra.
- A price you’d be happy to pay. Look at today’s price first so the number is realistic.
- Somewhere for the ping to land: the Hermes dashboard, or Telegram or WhatsApp if you’ve connected one.
Ask Hermes first
You don’t need to build anything by hand. Paste something like this into Hermes:
Watch this Best Buy page for the Sony WH-1000XM6 noise cancelling headphones in black (SKU 6620467): https://www.bestbuy.com/site/6620467.p?skuId=6620467. Check it every 6 hours. If the price drops under $320, or if it goes out of stock and then comes back, message me right away with the price and the link. Stay quiet otherwise. Do not add anything to a cart or buy anything. Notify only.
Hermes comes with a built-in price monitor skill for exactly this. It checks the page once right away so it knows today’s price, then puts the watch on its schedule and only speaks up when your rule is met. It also remembers what it already told you, so you don’t get the same alert every six hours.
That’s it!
Here’s what the page looked like on Tuesday, October 6, 2026: $378, a Techtober Deal, $80 off the $458 regular price, and in stock online.

$320 is about 15% under today’s price. The banner says Techtober ends Sunday, so the price may actually go back up before it comes down again. That’s fine. The watch doesn’t care, it just waits for a number under $320.
To see what a ping looks like, I ran a test check with the bar set to $400 so it would fire right away. Here’s the message that came out:

With the bar back at $320, the same check said nothing at all, which is what you want. Once the real watch is set, you can ask Hermes to show your scheduled jobs, change the price, or pause the watch.
One thing that trips people up: one product can have a lot of versions on the same store. Different colors, open-box, bundles with extra accessories. Copy the link after you’ve picked the exact one you want, and put the color and SKU in the ask so Hermes doesn’t start watching the wrong thing.
What else can you do
It doesn’t have to be Best Buy. Target, Amazon, Walmart, or a brand’s own store work the same way if you can give Hermes a product page to re-check. If the thing you want is sold out, skip the price and just ask Hermes to tell you when it’s back in stock. You can also watch two stores for the same item and have it ping you on whichever one drops first. When it pings, I get that on Telegram on my iPhone, so I can open the link and buy it myself from wherever I am.
What I learned
A product price watch is just a check with a rule: this exact item, under this price, tell me. The gotcha is watching the wrong version of the item, so be specific in the ask. After that you get to stop refreshing a Best Buy tab, which honestly was getting a little embarrassing.
