Introduced in the Wild Update, the Minecraft Allays are some of the game’s more unique mobs, existing purely to help the player rather than hinder or be passive. They’re beautiful little creatures that can be a bit hard to find, but discovering one is quite rewarding.
That said, if you want more Allays without searching for them, you can breed Allays to acquire more of them. This guide has you covered. We’ll talk about how to find Allays, how to breed Allays, and more.
What Are Minecraft Allays?
The Minecraft Allays are cute, winged creatures that can deliver items to you or your friends. To have an Allay search for items, give it an item yourself, and it will roam around looking for more.
An Allay can hold one stack of items and will search until that stack is full before returning them to the player.

Additionally, if an Allay hears a Note Block playing, it will bring items there instead and continue searching within a block’s radius. When the Note Block stops playing, the Allay will return to the player who last interacted with it.
Allays also glow in the dark, making them easy to see even in low-light environments.
How To Find Allays
Sadly, the only way to find Allays is to rescue them from jail cells. You can find jail cells with Allays inside Pillager Outposts and Woodland Mansions.
Pillager Outposts
You can find Pillager Outposts in most flat biomes. These enemy structures require you to defeat a Pillager Captain alongside its many Pillager minions.

Once defeated, you can break the jail cells to rescue any Allays inside.

Allays have a 50% chance of spawning in a Pillager Outpost, and anywhere from one to three Allays may appear.

Woodland Mansions
Woodland Mansions are a bit harder to find than other structures, spawning only in Dark Forests.

Once inside the Woodland Mansion, you’ll face a variety of enemies, such as vindicators and evokers, alongside Minecraft’s typical fare.

You’ll want to search every room to find Allays stuck in wooden cells. Simply break the cells open and hand the Allays items to get them to follow you, and you can bring them back to your main base.

How To Breed Allays
Now that you’ve found some Allays, it’s time to bring them back to your base and breed them.
What’s interesting about Allay duplication is you only need one Allay to create more. Unlike other mobs, you can breed Allays by giving them an Amethyst Shard while they’re dancing.

To start the Allay duplication process, you must collect items allowing you to build a Jukebox.
How to Build a Jukebox
It’s important to note that a Jukebox differs from a Note Block. While Note Blocks play individual notes, a Jukebox plays music that you can find around the world. Many of these tracks are normal tracks you hear while exploring your Minecraft world, only you can play them on-demand.

That said, if an Allay hears a note block, they will pick up items within a radius of said block for a short while before returning to the player. So, while a note block does play a part in Allay interactions, the Jukebox is needed to breed the mobs.
You must acquire eight wooden planks and one diamond to build a Jukebox. Then, arrange them as follows via a Crafting Table:

Now that you have a Jukebox, you’re on your way to breed an Allay. It’s time to get them dancing. The problem is, getting them dancing requires a rare item called a music disc, as well as an Amethyst Shard. Neither is an easy feat. Either way, let’s begin.
Finding a Music Disc
Unfortunately, you cannot craft a music disc. Instead, you can only find music discs in dungeons or other generated structures with chests inside of them. Even then, there’s no guarantee you’ll find a music disc.

Search through villages, dungeons, and other pre-generated structures until you find one. Fortunately, any music disc will do.
Now that your tools are set, the last item you need is an Amethyst Shard.
How to Find Amethyst Shards
Amethyst Shards are a bit of a difficult resource to find — typically only spawning in Amethyst Geodes found underground.
To find an Amethyst Geode, you’ll want to explore caves or other naturally generating underground spaces until you come across a small section full of purple and white blocks.

Inside, you’ll find sets of Amethyst Clusters, which you can mine with a pickaxe to acquire Amethyst Shards.
Now, you can finally breed Allays.
Make a Dancing Allay
Finally, all of the steps are in place. All you need to do now is place a music disc inside your Jukebox and ensure an Allay hears it.

Any Allay nearby will become a dancing Allay, moving and grooving to the music with a unique dancing animation.
When you see an Allay dancing, give it an Amethyst Shard. This will create a new Allay nearby. What’s interesting is there’s no baby variant of an Allay. Instead, the duplicate mob will automatically be full-size.
When the Jukebox stops playing, Allays will return to their routine tasks.

Now that you know how to breed Allays, you can create a family of them to carry items around your Minecraft world.
