Soulmask is one of the more demanding survival games out there, and without a proper base location, you’ll find yourself quickly succumbing to its treacherous dangers. However, a good base can help you build your own tribe, making it much easier to expand into the mid game and the late game.
If you’re new to the game, you’ll likely want to know the best base locations Soulmask has to offer. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered with this guide.

What Makes The Best Soulmask Base Locations?
As with many survival games, the best base locations contain a few key features:
- They’re near abundant resources.
- They provide natural defenses from the world and its dangers.
- They’re accessible in the early and mid-game.
Any area with those three requirements fulfilled is probably a good spot for a base location.

For example, an area with consistent stones to mine, bushes to harvest, and trees to chop provides an easy way to get going in the early game.
Eventually, you’ll want access to a small lake or a river to expand into clay and other resources.

Fortunately, there’s no limit to the number of base locations you can have, so you can build a base anywhere you’d like if you have the resources.
Remember that you’ll need a lit bonfire to keep your structures from deteriorating when creating a base. This means you need to keep each fire full of fuel, so at times, it may be better to expand slowly rather than build a bunch of bases at once.
What Are The Benefits of Having A Base?
A base provides a location for you and your tribe to gather resources and serve as a space for them to rest and regain morale. Hanging out in a base with a bonfire gives you buffs, boosts your recovery, and better prepares you for outside adventures.

You can build as big a base as you’d like — and the bigger your base, the bigger your tribe. A bigger tribe means more members gathering resources and more members to defend should you be attacked. As members begin doing the manual work for you, you can spend time doing other things like upgrading your ancient mask.

Base locations are great spaces to craft planks and handles via a Carpenter’s Table for upgraded weapons, and they typically have a massive bonfire or two for you to cook food. Whether you’re in the early game, mid game, or late game, you should always have a few base locations.
If you have a bonfire in your base, that’s also a spot you can respawn at when you inevitably die. Having more bonfires in the early game is crucial as you explore, as you’ll have multiple avenues to respawn and find your gear again.

How Do I Build A Base In The Early And Mid Game?
The in-game tutorial does a decent job teaching you how to build a base, but we’ll also cover a few of the basics here.
To start, you must research Basic Building in the Knowledge & Technology tree.

Once researched, you can unlock formulas on the tree’s right-hand side. Unlock Thatch Foundation, Thatch Wall, Thatch Door, and Thatch Cover.
When you’ve unlocked the Thatch building formulas, gather resources like wood and Thatch from the environment. Then, craft some Thatch Foundation from the crafting menu.
After the crafting process is complete, you can start laying down your base’s foundation.

Next, build walls on top of the foundation.

Place some roofing on top of the walls and a door for good measure.

Finally, place a bonfire in your house.

Congratulations! This is the start of your base. You can continually expand it as your tribe grows and upgrade it to better materials as you move through the Knowledge & Technology tree.
The Best Base Locations Soulmask Has To Offer
The lake with a small island
Soulmask generates the same map for every player, making it easy to recommend good base locations. That said, spawns are randomized, making it vital to start progressing as soon as possible.
Finding a water source near your spawn often serves as a good starting base location. Water regularly attracts wildlife like turkey, features access to abundant resources in the form of clay, wood, stone, and bushes, and you can quickly grow a following thanks to the unlimited water source.
This specific lake features all of the resources you could need, and it’s a great starting point due to its mini islands, serving as a built-in defense mechanism from threats.

This isn’t to mention the area’s higher points that give you a great view of impending danger. All in all, this area feels like an oasis tucked away from the rest of the map — a perfect place to start a tribe!

Near a massive set of rock walls
While creating your own walls is fine and dandy, having a natural wall to build around prevents attackers from coming on multiple sides.
Not too far from the previously mentioned base location are two massive rocks with a relatively flat space in between them. If you’re able to clear out the resources, you can build a base with walls connecting the two rocks, providing you with a massive, natural defensive space.

On top of that, there’s a sizeable lake nearby that provides not only natural water but also a third line of defense. Creating in the middle of these structures creates a choke point that’s easy to defend, with enough natural resources that you can realistically remain here forever. It’s an excellent location to start your camp.

If you’re looking for more base locations, here’s a tip — this interactive map provides everything you need to know about Soulmask exploration. Use it to specifically target locations that will help you the most.
