While working in pre-sales we have a lot of prospective customers ask us what the difference is between Name Hero and a lot of our competitors.
Last year, I did a pretty in-depth comparison against HostGator and have received a lot of positive feedback from it.
Therefore, I’ve decided to start doing this more often on our blog, while trying to remain objective as possible.
In this installment I’ll be comparing NameHero’s Reseller Packages to InMotion Hosting’s Reseller Packages:
InMotion Hosting Reseller Packages
Package | Storage | Bandwidth | Domains | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
R-1000S | 80GB Disk | 800GB | Unlimited | $13.99/mo* | R-2000S | 120GB Disk | 1200GB | Unlimited | $19.99/mo* | R-3000S | 160GB Disk | 1600GB | Unlimited | $27.49/mo* |
* It’s important to note, I’m going off the “best deal” price meaning it’s for 24-months.
NameHero Reseller Packages
Package | Storage | Bandwidth | Domains | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Startup | 50GB Disk | 500GB | Unlimited | $10.37/mo* | Entrepreneur | 75GB Disk | 2000GB | Unlimited | $15.57/mo* | Corporate | 100GB Disk | 2000GB | Unlimited | $21.42/mo* |
* Just like InMotion, I’m going off the “best deal” pricing meaning it’s for 24-months.
Right off the top you can see we’re pretty similar except for the fact that InMotion offers a bit more web space with each account. I’ll get into more specifics below:
Technical Comparison
For the last two decades, most hosting companies use the exact same technical specs but compete in terms of disk/bandwidth in comparison to the price. Nowadays, there are a lot more options when it comes to infrastructure used to power websites.
For example, at NameHero we solely believe the future of the entire web hosting industry is having an infrastructure that’s 100% on the cloud. We don’t even own a traditional dedicated server. By glancing at InMotion’s website I believe they’re still using traditional dedicated servers for their reseller packages.
My main problem with this is if there is a hardware failure, the entire machine has to be temporarily taken offline, opened up and components have to be replaced. On the cloud, the instance can simply be scaled over to another instance saving from unwanted downtime.
Company | Storage | Web Server | Cloud Based | Database | Backups |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
InMotion Hosting | SSD Raid 6 | Apache | No | mySQL | Nightly | NameHero | SSD Raid 10 | LiteSpeed | Yes | MariaDB | Nightly |
In addition to the Cloud we use LiteSpeed web server vs. Apache. LiteSpeed has conducted some very interesting benchmarks that show the increase in performance over Apache and other web servers on the market.
For the same reason, we use MariaDB which is a drop-in replacement for mySQL. Your scripts will still work the same, but will function with increased performance. The MariaDB team is actually the same team that initially developed mySQL (prior to the Oracle acquisition).
My main reason for starting NameHero was to be able to offer a high-speed, reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure for a good price. While our deployments cost more initially, we’re able to save with much less downtime and our customers love the increase in speed!
Feature Comparison
There is nothing worse than getting nickel-and-dimed. We want our resellers to be able to deploy their account and have all the tools necessary to be successful and competitive in the web hosting industry:
Company | Free SSL | WHM | Cloudflare | WHMCS | Private NS |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
InMotion Hosting | No | Yes | No | Yes | Yes | NameHero | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
One of the ways we do this is by offering 100% free and automatic SSL certificates for all domains and sub-domains across the NameHero network. This not only applies to your master reseller domain, but also your customers.
With companies such as Google placing a big emphasis on websites using SSL, we feel it’s necessary for all websites on the Internet to utilize this technology, creating a safer Internet for everyone.
It’s also important to note that NameHero offers a free WHMCS license (a $15.95/mo value) with our Corporate Reseller package while InMotion Hosting offers it for all packages. We felt we’d rather keep our prices low across the board as many of our top resellers have multiple accounts and don’t need more than one WHMCS license.
Finally, we’ve integrated all of our servers to use Cloudflare w/Railgun. Cloudflare is one of the world’s most popular Content Delivery Network that also offers security against DDOS attacks. Their Railgun technology helps accelerate your website and costs up to $200 per domain if bought directly from Cloudflare. This is free with all accounts at NameHero.
Customer Service/Support
The final piece of the Reseller account [and the most important in my opinion] is customer service and technical support.
Company | Live Chat | Tickets | Phone |
---|---|---|---|
InMotion Hosting | Yes | 6-8 Hours | Yes | NameHero | Yes | 15 Min | Yes |
I was able to confirm their ticket response time through a live chat. I also wanted to confirm they’re using Apache web server:
[Michael G.] Hello, my name is Michael G. Thank you for contacting InMotion hosting sales today.
[Me] Hey Michael!
[Me] Can you let me know the average response time to a ticket?
[Michael G.] Our average response time is 4 – 6 hours if we are busy less if we are not
[Me] Okay, thank you! Also, what web server will my Reseller package have?
[Michael G.] We have two options, the Standard Reseller and VPS reseller. Which plan are you considering?
[Me] Standard Reseller
[Michael G.] This will be a CentOS 7 server lampstack configuration with Apache.
[Me] OK thanks so much!
I was impressed how fast they answered their live sales chat, some of the other large companies have a very long hold.
As far as ticket response time goes, I can personally tell you, sometimes thing get VERY hectic here at NameHero. But even if I have to personally jump on the desk, a ticket isn’t going to sit longer than 15 minutes without someone at least picking it up.
Each one of our shifts has a Level III lead supervisor who sees to it. I even have an escalation rule set in WHMCS that will alert me personally via my phone if a ticket is left sitting.
Visual Comparison
I filmed a video tutorial on our Official YouTube Channel where I talk about all of these features in a bit more detail and also demonstrate how to get your NameHero Reseller account online:
Who Offers The Best Reseller Account?
Only you, the customer, can answer that question.
I encourage you to go out and do your own research. Remember, Googling for reviews, and looking further than their own website is always a good idea.
If you’re still undecided, sign-up for one of each and make your own decision.
As I say in my video, I’ve heard a lot of good things about InMotion and have a lot of respect for their company leadership and their growth throughout the industry. I’ve tried to be as non-objective throughout this review and try to only state the facts as I understand them.
If you have any questions or would like to share your experience with either company, please feel free to do so below.
