Stardew Valley is mainly about creating a farm for both crops and animals. Alongside cultivating seeds, there are tons of different animals you can gather and breed.
One of those animals is the Duck — a type of bird you’re surely familiar with from other video games and even the real world. But more important, at least for the purposes of this guide, is what we can gather from the Duck. In this case, it’s the Duck Feather.
This guide will cover everything you need to know about the Duck Feather, including how to get it, what it does, and any of its additional uses.
But first, let’s break down the Stardew Valley Duck.
What Is The Stardew Valley Duck?
The Duck is an animal you can either buy from the Ranch or grow using an Egg in the game’s Incubator.
If you choose to buy a Duck from the Ranch, it costs 1,200. Otherwise, you can place the Duck Egg in an Incubator for 9,000 minutes. At that point, it will hatch.
Once you have a baby Duck, it must eat every day for five days. From there, it will become an adult Duck, and we can start working toward acquiring the Duck Feather.
To store a Duck, you need to buy a Big Coop. You can get the Big Coop upgrade from the Carpenter’s Shop for 10,000 gold. It takes two days to upgrade the normal Coop to a Big Coop.
Otherwise, a fully grown Duck will produce a Duck Egg every two days. You can then sell the Egg or place it in the Incubator for more Ducks.
If you want a Duck to produce a Duck Feather, you must increase its friendship and happiness meters.
To increase its friendship meter, you must pet and provide water to the Duck once a day — this is a similar process to increasing the meter with other in-game pets. Each of these actions will increase your friendship with the Duck by a specific amount. Once the meter is high enough, it will start producing Duck Feathers alongside Duck Eggs.
What Is The Stardew Valley Duck Feather?
Whenever you raise a pet’s friendship level to full, it has a 20% daily chance to drop a pet gift. In this case, each Duck can drop one Duck Feather per day. The more mature Ducks you have, the higher the chance of them dropping Duck Feathers.
That said, there are a few other ways to acquire Duck Feathers.
Traveling Cart
The Traveling Cart shop appears in the Cindersap Forest on Fridays and Sundays and during certain events like the Night Market or the Desert Festival.
Occasionally, it will sell Duck Feathers for a varying price. Image courtesy of DangerouslyFunny.
Marriage to Emily
Emily is one of the game’s marriage candidates. If you two have a good enough marriage, she may occasionally gift you a Duck Feather.
Statue of Endless Fortune
If you acquire the Statue of Endless Fortune from the game’s Casino, it will produce a random item daily.
On the 26th day of Summer, it will produce a Duck Feather.
Pet Cat
Finally, if you have a pet Cat with the maximum friendship level, it may gift you a Duck Feather from time to time.
How Do I Use The Stardew Valley Duck Feather?
There are two main uses for the Duck Feather: for a Dye Bundle and for creating the Lime Green Striped Shirt.
Lime Green Striped Shirt
You need a Duck Feather, a Sewing Machine, and Cloth to make the Lime Green Striped Shirt. You can choose to dye the Striped Shirt while making it in the Sewing Machine or use the pots at Emily and Haley’s House. Either way, you’ll get a shirt tinted with Green Dye.
While you can always head to Emily and Haley’s house to create clothes, you can also unlock your own Sewing Machine by completing the Rock Rejuvenation Special Order from the game’s Bulletin Board.
Dye Bundle
If you’ve been playing Stardew Valley for a bit, you’re certainly aware of the Community Center and its various bundles. These bundles ask you to donate certain sets of items in exchange for a reward.
The Duck Feather is part of the Community Center Dye Bundle, which also requires a Red Mushroom, a Sea Urchin, a Sunflower, an Aquamarine, and a Red Cabbage.
You earn a Seed Maker in exchange for completing this Dye Bundle.
As you now understand, raising animals to produce a Duck Feather isn’t too hard. The benefits are worth it, no doubt. Now, why not try raising a farm with some friends?
