In Minecraft, you’ll encounter a variety of biomes, mobs, and of course, blocks. The game has a wide range of blocks you’ll encounter and can be used in combination to create cool items or simply build. One of these blocks is the Heavy Core which comes with the Minecraft 1.21 update with the game’s added trial chambers.
The Heavy Core is literally what it sounds like. It’s a core-like block that is depicted to be heavy. Moreover, it’s said that the block is quite rare to find in-game. Despite its rarity, the core does have a purpose once you chance upon it such as using it to craft the Mace in Minecraft.
You may be considering looking for this block. While you may face some challenges when you attempt to find this block, we’ll keep you company with this basic guide on how to get a Heavy Core in Minecraft. From understanding this block to locating it and uncovering its uses, we have a complete rundown of the main things you need to know.
What is a Heavy Core?

To start things off, you should know a bit more about this block. This block is a shiny-like core introduced in Minecraft 1.21. Known to be a rare and highly durable material this core is crucial to create strong items and builds such as the iconic weapon, the Mace.
Besides that, the block has quite a low chance of being found in Trial Chambers, making it a highly coveted item. In line with that, this block can’t be crafted at all so players must rely on their exploration skills to find Heavy Cores in the game.
All of these aspects of the Heavy Core make it such a unique block that’s both functional and aesthetic. Whether it’s for producing weapons, creating cool builds, or other uses, the distinct features of the Heavy Core make it a prized block for Minecraft players.
Where can you get a Heavy Core?
There’s only one location where you can get this block in Minecraft 1.21. This is within the recently added Trial Chambers which are Copper and Tuff rooms that spawn challenges for players to complete and be rewarded by.

Specifically, you’ll have to unlock the Ominous Trials which are different from regular Trials. We’ll be detailing in the next part how to get the Heavy Core in Minecraft by undertaking these Ominous Trials.
How to get the Heavy Core in Minecraft?
Getting the Heavy Core in Minecraft can only be done in Minecraft 1.21. Be sure to update your game to this latest version. Moreover, you have to be ready to spend hours and hours searching for this block due to its rarity.
In Survival Mode
When it comes to Survival Mode, you can find the Heavy Core in Minecraft within an Ominous Vault. These vaults are located within Trial Chambers. Trial Chambers are a bit challenging to find since they are located deep underground.
Step #1: Find a Trial Chamber Cave System
First off, Trial Chambers generate quite randomly. Usually, they generate between y-levels -40 and -20.

When digging around and exploring underground, you’ll have to look for Copper and Tuff walls and floors.

These are the main characteristics of Trial Chambers. There will be rooms that have ladders that lead to platforms and Ominous Vaults.
Step #2: Look for Ominous Vaults
You should know that Heavy Cores can also be found within Ominous Vaults.

These are special vaults that contain valuable loot and similar drops when you open them. Plus, you can only open them with Ominous Trial Keys.
Ominous Trial Keys can only be taken when completing an Ominous Trial which is the more challenging trial level within Trial Chambers.
Step #3: Start an Ominous Trial
To start an Ominous Trial, you must approach a regular trial spawner while under the influence of the Bad Omen effect in Minecraft or when defeating a Pillager Captain.
You’ll be able to trigger the Ominous Spawners with this, summoning the trial with increased difficulty.

Ominous Trials are basically like extreme modes of the usual trials in Minecraft.
Be careful though and ensure you have high-level equipment and weapons as mobs will also be better equipped and can summon potions to throw at you.
Step #4: Getting the Ominous Trial Keys
As you trigger the Trial Spawners, you’ll have to fight your way through each wave of challenges within the chamber. It’s best to do this with a group so that each player can cover for each other.
After completing an Ominous Trial, the Trial Spawner will then spawn the Ominous Trial Keys which you can use for the the Ominous Vaults.

Step #5: Claiming your Heavy Core and Other Rewards
Finally, you can then use the Trial Keys at the vaults. The Ominous Vaults will give you several high-value rewards alongside the Heavy Core.

However, keep in mind that there’s only a 7.5% chance the core will drop from the vault.

If you don’t get the block on the first try after completing one trial, you can trigger it again to start another.
In Creative Mode
When it comes to Creative Mode in Minecraft 1.21, you can navigate through your Creative Inventory to look for the Heavy Core. This is under the Ingredients tab which is symbolized by the Iron Ingot icon.

An easier way to look for the Heavy Core in Minecraft is simply using the search tool within your Minecraft inventory and typing out “Heavy Core.” The game will filter out all the items, resulting in only the Heavy Core.

Uses of the Heavy Core
While getting this block seems to be pointless, the Heavy Core does have a couple of uses in Minecraft. It serves some practical applications and is quite versatile for both survival players and creative builders alike.
Creating a Mace
Mainly, the Heavy Core is a key ingredient in crafting the Mace. This is a powerful and heavy-duty weapon that fits perfectly with the Heavy Core.

Moreover, the damage dealt with this weapon varies, depending on how long you wield it before striking. With that in mind, this makes the Heavy Core a highly valuable piece of loot to get as it can be a great addition to your arsenal of weapons, especially against tough mobs.
Interacting with Note Blocks
Another cool use of the Heavy Core in Minecraft is that it can change the sounds of Note Blocks.

This produces a snare drum-like sound when the block is placed under note blocks. Knowing this, you’ll be able to experiment more with Minecraft music, creating unique compositions for your musical builds.
Interacting with other Blocks
Furthermore, you can interact with the Heavy Core through Pistons. Similar to Glazed Terracotta, you’ll be able to use a Piston to move a Heavy Core.

Attempting to stick the Heavy Core to Slime Blocks and Honey Blocks won’t work either. This shows how unique the Heavy Core is and its relationship with other blocks.
Building durable Structures
While it might be challenging to obtain a huge inventory of Heavy Core Blocks, doing so can allow you to create explosion-resistant structures that are similar to Bedrock’s durability.

From blast-proof shelters to secure vaults, you can pretty much make a lot of security builds with this block.

How do I make a Mace with a Heavy Core?
The process of making this tool isn’t too difficult as you’ll only have some trouble with finding its ingredients. You’ll feel much satisfaction after creating a Mace since you can use it in dire battle situations.
The first thing you need to do is gather a Breeze Rod and your Heavy Core.

The Breeze Rod is dropped by the Breeze during trials within Trial Chambers so it should be convenient for you when you’re also looking for the Heavy Core.

Next, lay out all your ingredients on your Crafting Table. Simply add the core on top and the rod below.

The Mace should appear on the right-hand side of your table’s interface. Another option is to use the pre-made recipes for your table.

Afterwards, you can then grab your new weapon and start using it.
Tips to Obtaining the Heavy Core in Trial Chambers
The Minecraft Trial Chambers are formidable. They demand your preparation when you attempt to face each wave of trials. It helps to have powerful tools that are enchanted to a high level, really good armor such as Diamond or even Netherite if possible. Additionally have plenty of food such as Golden Apples to heal yourself immediately.
Aside from that, it also helps to go through the trials with your friends. The more people you’re fighting with, it will be easier to complete each trial. You’ll be able to support each other and even share the experience of obtaining this core.
Overall, be persistent, and determined, and take your time when looking for the Heavy Cores. Minecraft as a game is open-ended and there isn’t a definite end to it. You can do as many trials as you please just for a chance to get this core. Have fun with the process and always be ready for anything.
