Everyone knows that Palworld pulls from Pokemon, one of the most popular properties in the world. It copies Pokemon in being a creature collectathon as well as a creature battler, amongst its other ideas.
One other thing it has taken from Pokemon is its elements. You see, Pokemon are based on the nature we find in the real world, like Fire, Grass, Ground, Neutral, and more. Naturally, some of these cancel each other out, resulting in combat strategies players can learn to master.
Palworld element weaknesses and strengths are no different. If you’re curious about those, we’ve got you covered. This article serves as a deep dive into the Palworld Type Chart, providing you with details about every in-game type, as well as how to check a Pal’s element in-game.
What Are Palworld Types?
Palworld types are the elements that make up their very being. For example, Water type Pals are typically made up of that element, will have Water-based attacks, and may even have colors and body parts reminiscent of water.

Pals can be more than one type as well. These dual-type Pals will have dual-type abilities.

Pal types dictate their strengths and weaknesses in battle. For example, Ground attacks are strong against Electric Pals, though they are weak against Grass type Pals. Attacks that are strong against other Pals do double damage. Attacks that are weak against other Pals do half damage.
Naturally, it’s best to have a diverse team of Pals that you can swap out at will, maximizing your attacks that do more damage against the enemy and minimizing those that do less damage.
Of course, dual type Pals complicate this process a bit. If a Pal is a Grass and Ice type, they are twice as weak to a Fire type attack. However, Penking is Water and Ice. One of those types is strong against Fire, while the other is weak against it.
Pal Types Outside of Battle
As you surely know, Pals are useful outside of a fight as well. In this case, a Pal’s type influences its Work Suitability Skills or the abilities it contributes to your base building process.
Let’s stick with the example of Penking, which is an Ice and a Water type. Penking has the Watering and Cooling Work Suitability Skills, allowing it to water plants and refrigerate food. Keep this in mind as you search for Pals of a certain type.

Palworld Type Chart Explained
There are nine types to understand in Palworld. Most types have one strength and one weakness, though there are a few variations to that.
Take a quick look at this Palworld Type Chart.
Palworld Types Chart
Pal Type | Strong Against | Weak To |
---|---|---|
Dark | Neutral | Dragon |
Dragon | Dark | Ice |
Electric | Water | Ground |
Fire | Grass and Ice | Water |
Grass | Ground | Fire |
Ground | Electric | Grass |
Ice | Dragon | Fire |
Neutral | None | Dark |
Water | Fire | Electric |
As you can see from the table, there are quite a few element weaknesses to consider.
You have Fire weak to Water, Ground weak to Grass, and Dark weak to Dragon, amongst many others. If you only memorize one thing from this list, make it element-type weaknesses. The chart below can help.
Palworld Weakness Chart
This chart is a quick way to understand each type weakness. We see Electric weak to Water, Dragon weak to Dark, and Neutral weak to Dark but strong against nothing, hence its position at the end of the line. The other types are represented as well.

The chart below also details Pal strengths and weaknesses in a bit more detail, though it’s harder to memorize. Keep this around if you’re really interested in a type’s strengths.

How To Find Pal Types
There are a few ways to find a Pal’s type, depending on where you’re looking at them.
Party Menu
If you’re looking at your Pals in the party menu, you can click on them, and their type will show up next to their experience bar.

Palpedia
If you’re browsing Pals in the Palpedia, their type will simply show up next to their number in the list.

However, this will only show up next to Pals you have captured. If you have only encountered a Pal but haven’t caught it, its type will not appear.

Palbox Menu
The Palbox Menu integrates types in a few ways.
First off, you can sort Pals by type if you click on the Sort button up top and select Sort By Element. You can automatically categorize the box by element, or you can select specific elements to appear first.

Otherwise, if you’re hovering over a specific Pal, you’ll see its type (or types) next to its name on the menu’s right-hand side. It only shows images, no names, but you can figure it out.

Well, that’s about everything there is to know about Palworld types, including element weaknesses, how to fight against each type, and more. Now, we’re assuming you want to collect every type out there. If that’s the case, why not bring some friends along with you?
