What is the Stardew Valley Fair?
Taking place on Fall 16th every year in-game, the Stardew Valley Fair runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (game time). You can earn Star Tokens, a currency that can be exchanged for prizes at the Shop near the Bus Stop’s entrance. These are earned through the different fair activities and can win you items such as rare scarecrows, seasonal decorations, and the Stardrop.
There are several activities you can do within the fair such as a variety of minigames. Moreover, the main event, the Grange Display allows you to showcase your farm’s progress. Take note that Pierre wins the competition every year (unless you can beat him).
Ahead of time, you’ll receive mail from Mayor Lewis about the upcoming Stardew Valley Fair held in the town square. He’ll invite you to set up your display for the event. This will give you some leeway time to prepare for the event so you can collect and preserve high-quality crops and goods.
What are the Attractions in the Stardew Valley Fair?
In terms of attractions, there are several popular activities you can try to earn Star Tokens from. Each mini-game is unique and fun at the same time. However, do remember you must have some gold on hand as some mini-game attractions do have some fees to play. Here’s each attraction and their respective descriptions:
Fishing Minigame
One of the most popular mini-games, you’ll simply have to catch some fish. Each caught fish of yours gives around 12 to 25 points. While for any non-fish items you catch, it gives you only 1 point. If you have any perfect catches, you also get some bonus points.
With this game, you can make over 800 Star Tokens per 50g you spend. As long as you have enough gold, you can play this minigame as much as you want within the fair day.
Slingshot Minigame
Next is the Slingshot Minigame. Each target you need to shoot gives varying points. Red targets give 1 point, blue targets for 2 points, and purple targets are worth 5 points.
By the end of your playthrough, you get a point multiplier based on your shooting accuracy/ An accuracy of 100% gives you a 4x multiplier. Like the previous mini-game, you only have to spend 50g on this and you can play it as many times as you like.
Smashing Stone
For this minigame, the Smashing Stone allows you to “test your strength” by clicking the stone at the right moment when the bar hits the top or bottom. You’ll be able to earn One Star Token for hitting the top or bottom of it.
This game is pretty straight forward and you can play this for free.
Token Seller
Another simple attraction is the Token Seller.
The mechanics for this are very straightforward. All you have to do is purchase Star Tokens for 50g each. While this is the least cost-effective way to earn tokens, it’s quite efficient if you wanna save on time.
Fortune Teller Booth
A higher-priced attraction is the Fortune Teller Booth. Here, Welwick the Fortune Teller will tell you events from the future for 100g. You’ll learn about things such as which two villagers will be at the top of your Social menu and which skill you have the highest level in.
Take note, however, if you have paid Welwick already, she’ll say “I’ve already read your fortune… go away.”
Spinning Wheel
The last attraction you can look out for is the Spin Wheel. Here, you can bet Star Tokens whether the spinner will land on the green or orange area. You can use any Luck-improving consumables before entering the festival to maximize your chances of winning.
Remember that it’s recommended to bet 46.7% of your current stars on green so you can gain the maximum expected profit while protecting against your losses.
How to enter and display your produce in the Grange Display?
The main event in the Stardew Valley Fair is the Grange Display. This takes place at the center of Pelican town’s fairgrounds. As mentioned earlier, you’ll have to compete against local shopkeeper Pierre for the title of best display.
Guide to Placing, Prizes, and Points Required
There are five different ranks you can achieve when participating in the Grange Display. Here are the different positions, prizes, and points required.
Place | Prize | Points Required |
First Place | 1,000 Star Tokens | 90 |
Second Place | 500 Star Tokens | 75 |
Third Place | 200 Star Tokens | 60 |
Fourth Place | 50 Star Tokens | Less than 60 |
Disqualified | 750 Star Tokens | 0 |
Your display will be scored based on the quality level of your items and their variety. Afterwards, you can then retrieve your items after the judging is completed. There are eight item categories recognized by the fair which are as follows:
- Animal Products
- Artisan Goods
- Cooking
- Fish
- Flowers, Forage, and Tree Saps
- Fruits
- Minerals
- Vegetables
To enter the contest, all you have to do is approach Mayor Lewis and talk to him. You can enter up to nine items to be judged in the contest. Each of your items will have an assigned point value, depending on how rare your item is.
Also, remember that the Grange Display considers the actual selling price of an item and not its base sell price. If you have higher quality items, you’ll get bonus points for that item.
Guide to Sell Price & Quality
As mentioned earlier, there are several points awarded to each item you display based on your sell price and quality, with a maximum of 8 points per item. The in-game sell price will reflect the actual value of your item. For instance, if you have an item with a base price of 90g, it will score points based on its actual quality value. Here’s a chart of prices and points assigned per quality:
Sell Price | Normal Quality | Silver Quality | Gold Quality | Iridium Quality |
0+ | 1 | 2 | 3 | 5 |
20+ | 2 | 3 | 4 | 6 |
90+ | 3 | 4 | 5 | 7 |
200+ | 4 | 5 | 6 | 8 |
300+ | 5 | 6 | 6 | 8 |
400+ | 6 | 6 | 6 | 8 |
Best Items for the Grange Display Contest
If you plan to win the Grange Display Contest, you must submit nine Iridium quality items from each of the categories. But you’re lacking in items, do your best to showcase products worth over at least 400g.
An alternative strategy is to exhibit Mayor Lewis’ shorts to coerce him into awarding you 750 Star Tokens which is a quick way to earn tokens within the event. Here are some of the best items you can display during the Grange Display:
Milk Products or Egg Products
These products are the often common animal products you can invest in for the Grange Display. Getting high-quality eggs such as Duck eggs, Golden Eggs, and Ostrich eggs can get you around 4 to 8 points.
While for milk, you can get around 3 to 6 points depending on its silver, gold, or iridium quality.
Son of Crimsonfish, Ice Pip, or Glacierfish
For these fish, you can get around 6 to 8 points depending on their quality. The Son of Crimsonfish is usually caught in the Summer, then the Ice Pip is caught in the Mines on the 60th floor. While the Glacierfish is caught around the Cindersap Forest during the Winter.
While these fish seem rare to catch, they are worth investing in for your Grange Display.
Melons
Mainly grown in the summer, Melons are worth 4 points in their normal quality. However, if they’re of silver quality, you can get them at six points. Just be sure to plant them early in the summer since they take 12 days to grow.
Purple Mushroom
The Purple Mushroom is also worth 4 points at normal quality. You’ll find this while foraging. Don’t make the mistake of throwing this away since having one can help your display.
You might also be lucky to come across a silver or gold quality of this mushroom since it’ll be worth 6 points.
Pickled Cauliflower or Cheese Cauliflower
Similarly, having the Pickled Cauliflower as an Arisan Good can get you 6 points at normal quality. Saving at least one can become a Pickled Cauliflower.
Getting a recipe for Cheese Cauliflower is also easy since Pam can mail it to you after you’ve achieved three friendship hearts with her. As part of the cooking category, the Cheese Cauliflower is worth 5 points.
Wine
Depending on the fruit used to make it, Wine can be a game-changer for your Grange Display. You can use fruits such as Starfruit, Ancient Fruit, and Melon. These can get you around 6 to 8 points if you have quality wine.
Star Shards
Obtained from breaking Magma Geodes and Omni Geodes from the Blacksmith, the Star Shards are good mineral category items to display. These are worth 6 points.
Overall, it’s best to have gold items from across the eight categories for your Grange Display. This will help you earn points to possibly win first place. Gold items such as gold cheese, gold egg, and gold-quality vegetables are good additions to your produce.
Purchasable Items from the Fair’s Shop
After collecting your Star Tokens from the attractions and the Grange Display, you can then purchase items from the fair’s shop. Here are the fixed items you can get at the fair.
Then for random items, you can purchase an entire lot of each of these in one go.
How to earn more Star Tokens at the Stardew Valley Fair?
If you’ve tried all the attractions but still want more Star Tokens, you can earn more by doing these things.
First, try to win the Grange Display competition. Aim for first place as you’ll be rewarded with 1,000 Star Tokens. You have to fill all the empty slots on display and must include Silver, Gold, or Iridium Quality items. Moreover, feature products with an average sell price of 500g or higher.
It’s best to fill up all slots, even if it means placing junk items since they can boost your overall score by a few points.
Another way is to invest more in the Spinning Wheel minigame. You can watch an amount equivalent to half of your Star Tokens on the green area of the wheel.
As you collect more and more Star Tokens, keep in mind that your character can only own up to 9,999 Star Tokens. You should also regularly spend them by collecting items such as Rare Scarecrows and purchasing the Stardrop. These are great investments for your farm.
With that, you’re equipped with all the information you need to know in navigating the Stardew Valley fair event. While it’s a great opportunity to get some cool things with your Star Tokens, have fun with the Grange Display contest and the attractions the event offers.
