In Stardew Valley, there are only so many crops you can plant every season. There’s so much strategizing that goes into this and you can only hope but wonder if there are any other ways you can plant crops out of season. Well, there is, with the help of the Stardew Valley Greenhouse.
The Greenhouse is one of the most important buildings you’ll encounter in Stardew Valley. There are loads of benefits you can gain after repairing this. The investment is definitely worth it, especially if there are specific crops you want to have planted.
In this guide, we’ll be walking you through the Stardew Valley Greenhouse such as basic information about it, how to unlock it, crops you can grow in it, and how to maximize this building. You’ll be able to transform your Greenhouse into the perfect place for your greenery.
What Is The Stardew Valley Greenhouse?
The Greenhouse in Stardew Valley is a building seen on the player farm from the beginning of the game. You’ll find this building in a state of disrepair, so it’ll be unusable for a while until you do either two of the particular things required by the game.
Once you repair the Greenhouse, you can move it around your place by talking to Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop.
A crucial building in-game, the Greenhouse allows you to grow crops year-round regardless of the current season you’re facing. The Greenhouse has a land plot of 12×10 tilled soil and you don’t need to place Scarecrows to prevent crows from eating your crops. Moreover, you don’t need to water your Crops as there is a water trough found along the north wall of the building to which you can add sprinklers.
Another helpful piece of information to know when you farm in the Greenhouse is that crops will continue to regrow and won’t die at the end of any season. Between the wood border and greenhouse walls, however, lies a two-tile thick region that is unsuitable for crop planting.
You’ll be able to efficiently plant high-value crops that can give you additional profits besides your main crops on your farm lot. Additionally, the space given in your Greenhouse can allow you to experiment with different crops and maximize your farming potential.
Whether you use it for profit or to keep a good crop supply for your daily needs, the Greenhouse is a must-have building you should set your goal towards when playing Stardew Valley.
How Do You Unlock The Greenhouse?
You should know though, that the Greenhouse can only be repaired after you complete the Pantry Bundles for the Community Center or by purchasing it from the Joja Community Development Form for 35,000g. Here’s what we know about both routes to unlock the Greenhouse.
Community Center Route
The more popular way to get the Greenhouse is by completing all the Community Center bundles.
This starts by unlocking the “Rat Problem” quest upon interacting with Mayor Lewis. You’ll investigate the center and later talk with the Wizard at this tower in Cindersap Forest to receive a potion.
Upon consuming the potion, you’ll be able to talk with the Junimos, the small creatures found in the Community Center, and start giving them the items they request to complete each bundle. The bundles and their requirements are as follows:
- Spring Crops Bundle: 1x Parsnip, 1x Green Bean, 1x Cauliflower, and 1x Potato. This will produce a reward of 20x Speed-Gro Fertilizer.
- Summer Crops Bundle: 1x Tomato, 1x Hot Pepper, 1x Blueberry, and 1x Melon. This will yield a reward of 1x Quality Sprinkler.
- Fall Crops Bundle: 1x Corn, 1x Eggplant, 1x Pumpkin, and 1x Yam. This will garner you a reward of 1x Bee House.
- Quality Crops Bundle: 5x Parsnips, 5x Melons, 5x Pumpkin, and 5x Corn. This will give you a reward of 1x Preserve Jar.
- Animal Bundle: 1x Large Milk, 1x Large Egg, 1x Large Brown Egg 1x Large Goat Milk, 1x Wool, and 1x Duck Egg. This will give you a reward of 1x Cheese Press.
- Artisan Bundle: Truffle Oil, Cloth, Goat Cheese, Cheesy, Honey, Jelly, Apple, Apricot, Orange, Peach, Pomegranate, Cherry.
While this route seems to have a lot to demand from you, it’s worth it if you’re saving money in-game.
JojaMart Route
The JojaMart Route is pretty straightforward. Initially, you have to pay 5,000g for a JojaMart membership. This will then allow you to get to a point of doing Stardew Valley restoration projects and upgrades, which includes restoring the Greenhouse from disrepair for 35,000g.
Do keep in mind that taking this route will make you also replace the Community Center with a Joja Warehouse. But it’s worth the convenience of getting easy access to features, and rewards, without spending too much time grinding for items.
It’s best to take your time in choosing which route you want to go for in Stardew Valley to get the Greenhouse. There are different factors you need to weigh in such as the time, effort, and resources you’re willing to spend for either route.
What Crops Can You Grow In The Greenhouse?
As mentioned earlier, there are a variety of crops you can grow in the Greenhouse. We’ll be mentioning some of the best crops you can also invest in to have fully grown in your Greenhouse.
Any Crops
Mainly, any crops can grow inside your Greenhouse. Regardless of season, all plants from different seasons will grow alongside each other without any problems.
There are some exceptions to some items such as Bee Houses not being able to produce Honey if this is in the building. Moreover, Giant Crops won’t be able to grow indoors here. Even Casks won’t work in the Greenhouse as they only work when stored in the Cellar of your Upgraded House.
Some of the best things to plant here include Strawberries, Starfruit, Ancient Fruit, and Coffee Beans. Rare Crops like Ancient Fruit may be challenging to get, however, if you use a Seed Maker, it can increase the number of Ancient Fruits you can grow.
Multi-harvest Crops such as Grapes, Hops, and Green Beans can also be good choices for you to yield harvest consistently.
Fruit Trees
Besides fruit-bearing plants and vegetables, you can also consider having planted some Fruit Trees. These can grow on the tiled areas along the borders of your Greenhouse where usual crops can’t grow.
Ensure that there aren’t any decorations if you aim to plant some trees. Additionally, there should be at least two spaces between each planted tree so they can grow properly on the land you’ve allocated. It’s only after the growth of your trees you can then place decorations and plants around it.
Other things to note about Fruit Trees is that you shouldn’t plant them on the corners of your Greenhouse. Despite this, you can still grow as many as 18 trees which can yield you 54 fruit for three days. Here’s an optimal tree planting layout below.
Tips For Making An Optimal Greenhouse Layout
With the unusual layout set-up of the Greenhouse, there isn’t a lot of farmable land. You also have to consider the placement of Sprinklers for your layout. To automate watering efficiently, you can use Iridium Sprinklers that cover a 5×5 area.
Another tip for maximizing your Greenhouse layout is to plant profitable yet continuous yielding crops as mentioned earlier. Besides Ancient Fruit, Starfruit, and Coffee, you may want to consider Sweet Gem Berries too despite them yielding only once.
To add to that, consider also having your Seed Makers and Kegs. This can allow you to get multiple seeds and expand your crop layout. It’ll let you produce Wine using the Kegs.
Overall, the Greenhouse is a flexible building that allows you to experiment with your farming potential. The Greenhouse provides you with the freedom to grow a wide range of crops regardless of season. With the right approach and a bit of trial and error, this building becomes a powerhouse for you to produce crops that can be used for cooking, gifts, or profit.
Whether you’re a casual player or aiming to build a quality high-profit farm, a well-optimized Greenhouse is your key to getting the best out of your farming experience in Stardew Valley.
