Thanks to its cloud-based architecture, you can start using your NameHero account immediately after placing your order. Other web hosts without a cloud infrastructure need time to set aside and “provision” the resources on their servers. NameHero provisioning, however, takes just a few minutes. To give you an example, I first placed the order for shared hosting WP-Tweaks.com with NameHero on the 25th of October at 9:53 pm as shown here:
And I could access my dashboard just 3 minutes later at 9:38 pm:
This is the magic of cloud-based web hosting!
Zero Provisioning Times for VPS or Managed Cloud Servers
While many web hosts take over an hour to provision shared hosting accounts, the ordinary provisioning times for VPS servers are even longer – I know one web host that takes up to four hours! For NameHero, however, the provisioning time is instant. I placed the order for NameHero’s managed cloud service on the 7th of November 2021 at 10:29 pm, as shown here:
I was able to access my NameHero VPS just one minute later!
So despite it being a managed cloud server instead of simple shared hosting, NameHero managed to activate my account instantly.
Why Do Other Web Hosts Have Such Long Provisioning Times?
Ordinary web hosts still use an outdated hosting model. For shared hosting, they allocate websites to specific servers with defined resources. When you create a new account, they need to allot your website to one of those servers and ensure space. Hence the word “provisioning.” They’re carving out the resources necessary to host your site.
This is why provisioning a VPS takes longer. There are more resource considerations, and unlike shared hosting, a VPS needs its own dedicated resources. So setting aside dedicated space for new accounts takes time, and several older web hosts spend hours provisioning a VPS.
You won’t believe it, but some web hosts take up to two days to provision a dedicated server! Presumably, they need to manually build an entire physical server and allot the resources. Two days!
Why NameHero Doesn’t Have Provisioning Times
Unlike other web hosts, NameHero uses cloud technologies to pool machines’ resources. This means that instead of websites sitting on discrete, isolated machines, they can draw upon a larger pool of virtual resources like RAM, disk space, and CPU. Provisioning is no longer a matter of identifying individual machines and creating space but merely a question of software configuration.
For a VPS, you just need to assign global resources to an account, and you’re done. No need for complicated provisioning. The same is true of dedicated servers.
This gives NameHero a major competitive advantage compared to other web hosts. It also means that your website is more robust and that the failure of a single machine won’t tank your account.
Why Provisioning Time is Important
Considering that you can potentially host your website for years, what does it matter if it takes a few hours to get it running? Or even a few days, for that matter, when it comes to dedicated servers? Well, it’s about motivation, isn’t it? Every new website is a statement of hope. Optimism. A feeling that a new venture is afoot and the urge to start immediately.
Seeing a “provisioning in progress” message when you’ve just signed up for a brand new hosting account, and are eager to get started, is a bummer. It won’t matter much in the long run, but it shows how well your web host runs their business. NameHero lets you get started immediately after your invoice is paid. And isn’t that a comforting feeling?
