I find it astonishing that so few web hosts get backups right. In my opinion, the following backup features are absolutely essential for hosting, regardless of what kind of plan you have:
- Backups available on ALL plans
- Automatic daily and weekly or monthly backups
- INSTANT restoration with no need to open a ticket
- On-demand backups and snapshots
I review many hosting providers on my site WP-Tweaks.com, and NameHero is the rare host that fulfills all three conditions. Sometimes you won’t even know about the limitations until you purchase a hosting plan, only to find that there’s some catch. NameHero backups are one of its amazing selling points. It’s so important, that it’s worth discussing in more detail.
No Support Ticket for Restoration
One of the most insidious ways hosting providers skimp on backups is by making you file a support ticket to restore the entirety or part of your website. Think about how frustrated you must feel if something breaks on your site, and you have to create a support ticket to restore your files or databases. As a website owner, I can attest to the fact that my site being down qualifies as a crisis. And I want to be able to fix the problem now.
It’s completely unacceptable to have to file a support ticket to restore a backup. NameHero, using the JetBackup cPanel plugin, lets you access and restore your backups immediately. You can initiate either a partial or a full backup, and the process begins immediately. No support ticket is required.
For example, here’s a screenshot of a database restoration in the NameHero cPanel. I took this screenshot for the purposes of this tutorial, and didn’t need to open any support ticket on my shared hosting account:
And here’s an example of instant file and folder restoration from the JetBackup plugin in cPanel:
This might seem like basic functionality, but it’s astonishing how many web hosts are unable to get it right.
Backups on ALL Plans
Rare is the web host that provides backup on all their shared hosting plans – even the cheapest ones. NameHero makes all its backup features available on its shared hosting packages, regardless of price. Other web hosts either ask you to upgrade to a higher-tier plan or make you purchase an add-on to access this functionality. Some hosts will hide the fact that you have to purchase an add-on for backups, and you won’t realize it until it’s too late.
I get it – backups are hard. But in my opinion, there’s no substitute for a robust backup system, and everyone deserves it. It even makes good marketing sense, as a customer whose website is wrecked and is unable to restore it might well take out their frustration on the web host. So it’s something that should become an industry standard.
On-Demand Backups or Snapshots
It’s not enough to have automatic daily, weekly, or monthly backups. NameHero also allows website owners to take a snapshot of their account at any time. This is very useful just before you make any major changes to your site. If something goes wrong, you can just restore the snapshot and undo the damage. This is not the same as staging, where you create a copy of your site and then push them to the live version.
Many web hosts restrict the ability to create snapshots to their higher-tier packages, once again leaving their lower-tier customers to fend for themselves and risk losing all their changes up to the latest daily backup.
For these reasons, NameHero has the most complete backup solution of any web host. It meets all the criteria for dependability and takes even the lowest paying customers into consideration.

NOT for all plans, I’m paying for a plan with NameHero that has a limit of 500,000 nodes but Jetbackup has a limit of only 100,000
