How To Manage Your Domain Renewals

I got started building NameHero as I needed a platform where I could manage all my domain names I had purchased as investments in one place.

Since the late 90s I’ve been investing in .coms that I felt are of value.

Just like physical real estate, .com values have continued to increase year-after-year and I have some pretty nice sales to back this up.

Inside our interface, we’ve spent a lot of time to make it easy on our customers to see what domains are renewing and how to manage multiple domains at once with ease.

By default all domains registered at NameHero are set to have “auto renewal” on. If you’re like me and have hundreds of domains, it’s impossible to keep up with them all, hence it’s important that they auto renew so no one else can register them.

I’m also speaking from experience as over the years I have unfortunately lost a couple of domains due to an expired credit card or failing to have auto renew enabled.

If you’ve registered a domain you don’t plan on renewing, it’s important that you login and disable auto renew.

How To Check Your Domains

To get started, you can login to the NameHero client interface and click the Domains tab to see all of your domains registered with us:

This will bring you to a table where all of your domains are displayed:

Domains With NameHero

As you can see, Auto Renew is Enabled by default on all of the domains.

I can also easily see when a domain was registered and when it expires.

How To Modify A Domain

If I want to modify one of my domains, I can click the pencil icon beside the name I wish to manage:

Manage Domain

This will bring me to another screen that shows all the information about a specific domain:

You’ll notice the manage menu to the right as well as some ‘quick links’ at the bottom.

How To Disable Auto Renew

If you want to disable auto renew, you’d simply click the Auto Renew link from the menu:

From here, you simply want to click the big red button that says Disable Auto Renew:

You can follow the same steps in reverse if you’d like to re-enable.

How To Manage Multiple Domains

If you’ve registered many domains, you may find the need to manage multiple ones at once.

This is helpful if you’re wanting to change name servers, manage auto renew status, or modify your contact information.

To do this, you’ll go back to the same screen above you used to check your domains.

From here, you can select the domains you wish to manage and use the With Selected menu to take an action:

How To Change Domain Payment Method

If you purchased your domain with PayPal or Coinbase, it will not automatically renew.

These payment methods assume you’ll either Add Funds to your account or manually renew them when they come due.

The easiest way to keep all of your domains renewed is to ensure a valid credit card is on file.

From our client interface, hover over the Billing link on our main menu and select Manage Credit Card:

This will allow you to put a card on file that will be used to the renewals.

Now this next step is very important.

If you originally registered your domain using PayPal or Coinbase, you need to change your account payment method.

You can do this by hovering over your name in our client interface and going to Edit Account Details:

Once you’re here, you need to change the Payment Method to credit card:

As you can see, the default is to use the payment method you originally used during your order.

Check Your Invoice Status

Regardless you’re payment method, we’re always going to send you an email when a new invoice is generated and also let you know once it’s been paid.

We don’t want our customers to be surprised by an upcoming payment, so we make the notification four days in advanced and also confirm once payment has taken place.

You can keep check on your invoices by selecting My Invoices from the Billing menu:

From here, you can keep track of any invoice; Paid, Unpaid, Cancelled, or Refunded:

We also log all emails we send incase your inbox gets too crazy and you miss one.

This can be found by selecting the menu under your name and clicking Email History:

You’ll see all the emails sent to you from the first day you registered your account with us:

Domain Renewal Tutorial

All of this information should ensure your domains are renewed on time and you can manage them all with ease.

I filmed a tutorial where I discuss all of these steps in detail and also provide my feedback:

I own close to 200 names still. Was at about 300 at one point. Just bought the .com to my last name. Considering moving the hosting over here.
