I’ve been a big advocate of using 3rd party backup services in the past. And out of all of the services that I’ve reviewed, I’ve found that DropMySite is my favorite. So it’s pretty amazing that NameHero offers integration with DropMySite, and has special deals that are unavailable through their regular website. In this article, I’ll explain why DropMySite is so good, and why NameHero should be your choice of web host if you want a simple, and safe backup solution.
Why Use a 3rd Party Backup Tool?
If you have anything above just “basic” web hosting, chances are that your web host offers backup as part of their services. NameHero is one such host. To be honest, even by itself, the NameHero backups are amazing because they store your files offsite. Even premium providers don’t do that. So if you had to rely on the in-built backup service of a website, NameHero would be your choice.
But I’m not aware of a single other web host that takes care to store their backups in another location. Many of them actually store them in your root hosting folder! This is a serious security concern. And I don’t just mean in the “hacking” sense of the word. Network failures can, and have happened, taking entire months’ worth of backups with them. It’s a nightmare scenario to lose that much effort.
The only way to secure against this kind of disaster, is to have a 3rd party backup your files and store them in an entirely different network, separate from your web hosting. That way, you can restore your site from nothing.
Why DropMySite Rules Compared to the Others
There are lots of solutions to choose from if you want to purchase backups from a vendor. The two most well-known ones that come to mind are Jetpack’s Backup and CodeGuard. I won’t go into the details of their services. I’ll just explain what DropMySite has, that these other services don’t.
DropMySite Doesn’t Charge “Per Website”
Anyone who’s actively operated a website for a period of time knows that they can get addictive. If you own one domain, chances are that you own several. And if you manage a website, you probably have several! The above warnings with regard to backups apply to websites of all stripes – not just the ones on which you spend the maximum resources. So you need to think about offsite backups for each of them.
The problem with most services however, is that they charge you for each website you add to their backup packages. And these costs can add up pretty quickly, particularly if most of these other websites are not actively under maintenance. DropMySite on the other hand, charges you for the space you use on their servers. Whether that means 1 website, or 10. The price is the same, provided they all come under your space quota.
DropMySite is Cheap
A quick price comparison of DropMySite with its competitors like CodeGuard and JetPack, shows the gaping price differences between these services. Yes, there are fewer bells and whistles, but the gap is so large that it’s almost comical. JetPack’s per month costs are higher than what DropMySite charges in an entire year.
Taken together, these above two reasons make DropMySite unbeatable.
NameHero Has Special DropMySite Packages
On their website, DropMySite packages start with a minimum of 10 GB. Plenty of sites are well under that limit. So NameHero has special pricing tie-ups with DropMySite that start at just 5 GB as shown here:
So for most sites, you end up paying substantially lower than what you would have paid had you purchased DropMySite separately from their website. So this is the perfect trifecta. NameHero has an awesome backup option by itself, it offers DropMySite backups as additional protection, and it has an amazing pricing deal. Perfect!
