The Starter Cloud is the most basic web hosting package from NameHero. Make no mistake – while it’s the cheapest of the NameHero plans, it’s super fast thanks to the LiteSpeed web server that provides in-built server caching. That’s something no other web host provides for basic plans – they usually reserve this functionality for higher tiers.
But when should you upgrade from the Starter Cloud to say the “Plus” cloud, or higher? When do you know that it’s time to move on? In this article, I’m going to try and give you a feel for when you should start to think about upgrading.
Starter Cloud’s Biggest Limitation – One Website
If you’re just getting into web hosting, you never imagine you’ll need more than one website. After all, you have a specific goal in mind – likely some kind of business model – and one is all you want. It makes sense is such a situation, to opt for the Starter plan. After all, you’re likely to have just a few visitors at the beginning, right?
However, I can tell you from experience that after a while you’ll think of starting another website, either as a related business, or for something else entirely. I don’t know why, but owning websites often tends to be an addictive exercise – especially if your business is related to the digital world. When I started my own blog on Blogspot way back in 2008, I could never have foreseen that I would first migrate it to my own hosting, then open up another website for my professional freelance work, and then finally start WP-Tweaks as a side hustle. And ideas for new websites are already buzzing around in my head!
Take it from me – if you’re the enterprising sort, a single website isn’t going to cut it for you. You’ll need more. And when that happens, it’s time to upgrade to a higher tier NameHero plan. The “Plus” package gives you access to six websites, and that should be plenty for a while!
Don’t Worry about Parked Domains
One situation where you won’t need to upgrade, is if you have a bunch of parked domains. Unlike other web hosts, NameHero allows you to have unlimited parked domains on all its plans. You’re not going to find this on any other web host. Usually, they have a strict quota of a few parked domains on the basic plan, and then you have to upgrade to get unlimited parked domains. Not with NameHero – so park away!
More Speed and RAM
Websites aside, the Starter plan only allows you 1GB of RAM – and that’s common to all the other accounts on the same shared hosting virtual cloud server. This means that once your website starts to pick up, you’re going to need more RAM to keep it running smoothly.
And not just RAM, but CPU speed is also limited to 1 core for the Starter plan. This means that as your website needs more processing power to handle CPU hungry operations such as financial transactions and shopping carts, you’re going to need more than 1 core to handle all that.
It’s hard to put a finger on when exactly you need to upgrade, since it depends so much on the type of website you have. But eventually you’ll realize that you’ve grown a bit too big for your boots! This can also happen when the size of your website crosses a certain threshold – it’s not always about the visitors.
Apart from these two things – the number of websites and the resources – the NameHero Starter plan doesn’t artificially hold you back from any other features available to the higher tier plans. You still have access to server caching, free malware scanning, SSH access, JetBackup, and all the other cool bell and whistles that NameHero is famous for!
