Ruck and I continue to get questions daily on effective time management. Recently I’ve been reading up a lot of about and making changes in my everyday life that save me time allowing me to get more done in a day. Given I have a lot going on mismanaging my time could potentially cost me millions of dollars. So many people want to learn how to make money online however they simply cannot manage their time effectively leaving themselves with incomplete, half-assed campaigns, only better than the next competitor.
Let me provide you with an example… As many of you know Ruck and I relocated the headquarters of IMGrind.com from Florida to Missouri. I’ve been traveling a lot back and forth moving more-and-more of my office things to the city. Today I decided I was going to bring my vehicle up as it’s simply just sitting there depreciating not been driven. Unfortunately I had already booked a plane ticket home. So let’s take a look at my options:
1) Drive The Car & Office Equipment To Kansas City
- Estimated fuel cost: $197.44 (1234 miles at 20 miles per $3.20 a gallon)
- Hotel for one night: $145 (I won’t stay in motel 2)
- Airline Penalty: $150 (I only fly Delta, Southwest is beyond terrible)
- Vehicle Wear & Tear: $100 (this is conservative)
- Hours Missed From Work: 20 – $840 (to relate this to other Internet Marketers I’m going to estimated this at $1K profit a day or $42/hour)
Total: $1,432.44
2) Have Car Delivered In Closed Carrier To Kansas City With Equipment
- Estimated delivery cost: $1200 (Ruck got his towed for $700 but I’ll overestimate)
- House Missed From Work: $0
Total: $1,200
Look what we have here. So many people do not take in account the amount of money time is worth. As I posted several weeks ago everyone only has 24 hours in a day; no more, no less. If you’re spending your time doing something you best be seeing a return out of it. I see some affiliate marketers go to the conferences and spend all night out drinking only to sleep the following day away. They’re giving competition a huge advantage by doing this. If I was to spend 20 hours in a car; my campaigns, websites, and other business will suffer. Once the clock ticks forward it doesn’t move back.
“Ryan why does it always seem like you and Ruck consistently create winning campaigns?” This is a question often asked during our Live Events and inside the Community. Sure we have over a decade of experience marketing but one thing we learned early on was effective time management. Recently I was reading a book where the author talked about purchasing cheaper plane tickets with lengthy layovers. At least being an Internet Marketer you can be on a computer during a layover but how much “true work” do you get done with all the distractions of an airport. Not to mention if you’re like me and the Delta Sky Club offers complimentary beer, wine, liquor, and snacks.
Rather than driving down a cold lonely Interstate tonight I setup in my office developing our latest web property. By the time I get home on Sunday and my vehicle arrives later in the week we’ll be that closer to launching one of our largest websites of our career. How are you managing your time? Does this post bring a “eureka” moment to you?
