Rand Paul announced his candidacy for President of the United States for the 2016 election on Monday morning. Given that, I found it appropriate to look at investing in domains centered around the candidates.
I view domain names as virtual real estate. I’m always looking to obtain good names with potential resell value. Even if I sit on them for years, the demand will never go away.
CNNMoney.com profiled some domains centered around the 2016 Presidential Election owned by third parties.
Below are a few:
- USAHillary.com – FOR SALE $100,000
- ElectHillary.com – FOR SALE $295,000 (originally purchased for $15)
- ReElectHillary.com – FOR SALE $275,000 (originally purchased for $15)
- JebBush.com – FOR SALE $250,000
Purchasing domains in hopes of reselling them is not the only reason names centered around the candidates are purchased. Take for example HillaryforPresident.com, a domain owned and operated by the opposition.
With so many new gTLDs just becoming available, the time has never been better to start investing into domains. The key is just finding the extensions that will be in the biggest demand and hoping to hit a home run. Not only that but it’s important to consider your brand and take the measures needed to protect yourself from squatters. If you don’t protect yourself, it’s hard to blame a squatter looking to make a buck by being quick to the draw.
