As many of you grinders already know, you’re going to face problems in life and business. Hell the very nature of starting a business is the intention to solve a problem by providing a service or product.
When problems do arise though you automatically go into “Crisis Mode”. Your belief that you have a scarcity of solutions creates more problems. This causes you to go into lack and become extremely insufficient. Things that were once easy now become difficult and sloppy.
Finally you go into blame. Everything else is the problem not you! Your environment, timing, lack of or any other excuse you can possibly come up with to remove the blame of the problem from yourself. It’s simply easier to make an excuse for why you’re facing this problem rather than coming up with a solution.
NONE of this is resourceful for facing whatever challenge is in front of you!
Remain Calm! It’s extremely important but often easier said than done. If you don’t you’ll start to think irrationally due to your emotional distress. This tends to only make things worse and totally cuts you off from any potential solutions you may have otherwise come up with.
Assess the situation when a challenge comes your way. Write it down on a piece of paper so it’s right there in front of you, this will help you determine if it’s truly a crisis or merely an inconvenience or a setback. If you’re in the heat of the moment it’s best to not think about the problem until you’re thinking clearly.
Get Educated: no matter what problem you’re trying to solve, be it a crisis or not it’s extremely important to learn about the matter. This will allow you to stop dwelling on the problem and help you come up with solutions. The more you learn the easier and clearer your problems will become.
Be Resourceful: use all your tools available to you. It’s all about being clever and creative with your resources. Take inventory on what you have and what you need.
If you really can’t come up with solutions on your own, ask someone for help. It’s never good to tackle problems by yourself; this can be friends, family or even your local cashier (if you want to be that person). Sometimes even simply letting someone else know will help put everything into perspective.
There were more Millionaires created during The Great Depression than any other time in US history. I highly doubt any of them went into “Crisis Mode” when everything they knew was collapsing around them. Instead they took the situation as an opportunity, came up with creative solutions and ended up coming out on top. With every disaster there is an equal amount of opportunity if you know how to find it.
