How To Use QUIC.cloud’s Name Servers For Full CDN Integration

How To Use QUIC.cloud’s Name Servers For Full CDN Integration

Right now, QUIC.cloud is the best Cloudflare alternative. While it still has a long way to go to match Cloudflare’s extensive feature set, the basic functionality of a reverse proxy is already up and running. And the pricing model is far more flexible than Cloudflare’s, where the minimum plan costs $20/m. By contrast, QUIC.cloud has a usage-based model with a generous free tier that’s even more attractive if you use a LiteSpeed web server. In this article, I’ll show you how to switch your domain nameservers to QUIC.cloud to achieve full CDN integration.

Step 1: Obtain the QUIC.cloud Nameserver Details

To start, you must create a QUIC.cloud account and register your domain. For full CDN integration, head over to the DNS zones tab as shown in this screenshot, and scroll till you get the QUIC.cloud nameservers:

Make a note of these. Now we have to change the nameservers on your domain.

Step 2: Change your DNS Nameservers

This will vary depending on your web host. For NameHero, log into your client dashboard and click “Domains” on the left-hand side. Select “My Domains” as shown here:

From here, you get a list of domains that belong to you. Find the one that you want to connect to QUIC.cloud, click the three dots on the right-hand side and choose “Manage Nameservers”:

In the following screen, choose “Use custom nameservers” and enter the names of the QUIC.cloud nameservers that you got in step 1:

Save your changes, and you’re done.

Step 3: Verify your Changes on QUIC.cloud

QUIC.cloud will take a little while to update the changes. It has a timer that periodically checks whether you’ve changed the DNS servers. In the “CDN” section of QUIC.cloud, check out the status page for updates. Click the “Refresh Status” button to force QUIC.cloud to check for DNS integration, and if everyone goes well, all the items will turn green as shown here:

Once that’s done, you can switch on CDN caching and enjoy all the good stuff that QUIC.cloud offers!

Benefits of Using QUIC.cloud Nameservers

So why change your nameservers to QUIC.cloud in the first place?

Ease of Setup

Strictly speaking, you don’t need to change your nameservers to use QUIC.cloud. Instead, you can use CNAME integration to keep your existing nameservers. But I personally find it much easier to change the nameservers rather than adding a separate CNAME record. A lot of people get confused about what a CNAME record is, what an “A” record is, and whether you should use the “TXT” variable or not. Why bother with all that headache? Just change the nameservers and be done with it.

DNS Lookup is Faster on QUIC.cloud’s Nameservers

QUIC.cloud’s DNS architecture is dedicated to handing DNS requests, and it’s far more scalable than any architecture your web host is likely to have. QUIC.cloud uses the Anycast technology so that responses come from the QUIC.cloud POP that’s close to the geographical location in which your visitor exists. So by switching to QUIC.cloud’s nameservers, you’re speeding up your site in a way that merely adding a CNAME record doesn’t.

Tighter QUIC.cloud Integration

By switching your DNS servers to those of QUIC.cloud, you achieve tighter CDN integration, and QUIC.cloud can serve your site to visitors faster than otherwise. Remember that with the LiteSpeed caching plugin, QUIC.cloud serves your entire webpage from its POP servers – not just static files and images. So if you’re using, or considering using QUIC.cloud as a CDN, make sure you change your nameservers. It’s the best way to use the service!
