Last week we announced our long awaited integration with DropMySite.
Customers can now purchase space starting at $1.99/month for 5GB and automatically backup their website, databases, and emails automatically each night to their secured cloud.
Data can be retained for as long as 30 days and files can be individually or bulk restored from multiple restore points at the click of a mouse. It’s pretty awesome if do say so myself ;).
Why Offsite Backups Are Important To Your Website
How this is different than Name Hero Backups
We’ve invested a good bit into our own internal backups as I always like to prepare for the worst scenario. However, in order for us to continue offering competitive pricing, we’re only able to offer one-day backup retention.
With the said, each night we backup all cPanel accounts, as long as their Inode usage isn’t great than 100,000 and/or disk use doesn’t exceed 20GB.
Backups are easily accessed via cPanel and you can also restore one file, database, or entire accounts with the click of your mouse.
But what happens when you need more than 1 backup?
Last night my team was investigating an issue where several files from an account had been removed from a malware injection.
I always remind customers, when someone “hacks” their website there is usually an objective. In this case it was to take the website offline.
By the time the customer noticed the issue, the backups had already run. Therefore when we tried to restore from the recent backup, there was no change, the files had already been removed and reflected in the backups.
If not DropMySite, please keep local backups
We’ve integrated with DropMySite to allow you a simple, one click and forget it solution. However if this isn’t something you want to pay for, I want to please remind you to keep local backups, at least once a week/month.
Remember, I started Name Hero after nearly two decades of running my own websites and Internet-based businesses. I know how important my websites are to being online and just how much money downtime costs.
No one can predict the future, but as I say, I always like to be prepared in the event of the worst of situations. I’m not looking to “sell you” more add-ons and make more profit, I’m just trying to make sure you have a fail-safe backup solution in place as one day’s backup isn’t always sufficient.

If you’re a Reseller and would like to offer DropMySite to your customers, please log a new sales ticket. We have to handle this a bit differently, as you will have to bill your customers yourself, so they never see Name Hero. We can however, still make it happen. 🙂
Let us know if you have any questions, we’d love to help you out and make sure your website, databases, and emails are safe and secure.
