I don’t know about you but I sure miss the CPM rates of the early 2000s. The secret to making a lot of money hinged on one thing: page views.
Drive traffic to the website and get people to visit as many pages as possible. If you could do that, you could earn a respectable income and didn’t have to think twice.
Even better, deals with premium advertisers were guaranteed so you had “minimums” that essentially guaranteed you a salary.
However, those days are long gone. Not only is it difficult to find respectable CPMs but there are very few companies that offer 100% fill rates and the ones that do, offer next to nothing in terms of CPM. Couple this with the fact that a large portion of visitors have moved away from computers to smart phones and tablets and it’s an entirely different landscape to making money online.
With that said, there are still ways to make money on banner advertisements. It’s all about finding companies that will pay and that will offer more than “bottom of the barrel” to fill remnant inventory. Rather than dancing around the issue, allow me to show you some of my favorites:
I’ve worked with this combination to fill remnant inventory across a plethora of websites over the past 5-10 years. The CPMS aren’t going to blow anyone away but they are competitive, the fill rate is respectable and most importantly, these companies will pay you!
