Internet Marketers can at times find themselves with hundreds (if not thousands) of domain names just “sitting” in registrar accounts. At one time you may have been running a very aggressive direct response campaign but as it died out you simply abandoned the domain until it runs out. Depending on how good the name is you may or may not renew it.
I personally found myself in this situation this spring and decided to do something to monetize. I understood I wasn’t going to make the same $ I was when I was running aggressive campaigns but still anything is better than nothing. After some late night discussions on how I could easily monetize my portfolio of names we came to conclusion that Google’s Adsense would be a good solution. If you have an active Google Adsense account you can simply make some DNS changes and have instant pay-per-click on your domains.
Now don’t expect to make instant millions from your old domains. Remember the goal here is anything is better than nothing. Here are my stats for this month:
As I said, it’s nothing spectaular but those domains were just sitting around collecting dust. I’ll prob end up with close to an extra $100 this month in my pocket for a method that took all of five minutes to setup. Domain name registrars such as Namecheap allow you to copy DNS templates over to bulk domains and it’s VERY simple.
All you have to do is submit your domain name(s) for approval, make a few minor changes to the host/DNS records at your domain registrar, and you can begin making money. Once you log into your approved Adsense account you’re going to want to look for this on the left side bar:
You can then add one domain, multiple domains, or upload a CSV file with your portfolio:
After the domain is added you just have to add a few host records and you’re finished:
In years past I had done this to other domain names (ones that I had purchased for future development) with other parking services but it never really crossed my mind to do this to every old domain name including ones that used to host web sites, landing pages, tracking platforms, etc. with Google Adsense.
I’m also personally very surprised at the amount of impressions some of these domains are still getting (mostly type-in traffic). If you find one in particular that’s doing well you can absolutely squeeze out more than $0.10 a click by placing CPA or other affiliate offers. Obviously the larger domain portfolio you have, the more you can expect to make. Anything is better than nothing and it’s definitely worth taking that five minutes to setup.
